Work stuff + School Stuff + Updated mini tutorial

What a crazy term at school. I here are all the works I did in the past couple of weeks. These three pieces are for a personal project I'm currently working on; creating unique alien worlds.

I recently got the permission to post some of the pieces I've done at Crystal Dynamics last year. Here are some samples of the unannounced projected I worked on.

I'm also currently open for full time freelance work. Feel free to contact me for future oppertunities.

These are all really good, I think, but my favorite part of any of them is the present day freeway tucked in your fourth pic. That's just cool.

wow.. I really like your personal stuff. The first image is just pleasing to look at.
Also the stuff you did at Crystal Dynamics.. I love the line work you have in them with saturated color shapes. That flat TV is sexy!! Thanks for posting,

I saw your stuff on CG Hub and fell in love with it.
It would be really interesting to know the process behind the images created for Crystal Dynamics.
    Great work,

Bill - thanks. that painting actually started out with only the bottom portion. I had a lot of fun painting it and decided to extend the painting with that mega structure.

chosun - thanks for all the feedback and help man. couldn't have done those first couple ones without you.

mr. m - thanks! i got more coming, just need more time to organize them for posting.

animosapien - haha thanks dude. i'm flattered by your compliments.

robinchyo - thanks. I've been trying to work on more original designs lately and finally seeing some results. heard you're gonna be working with my friend josh at the new place, congrats.

chao lin - dude charles you've improved a ton yourself too. now everyone's outta school im the only person left from the class.

einhender - thanks for the feedback. your work have always been an inspiration for me.

chupacabra - thanks man. I'll try to get some kind of mini tutorial going for the process i had doing those pieces.

CIRE, jabraniho, J. Mac - thanks! it's always good to see familiar faces here.

Dile_ - yea haha that was me. you're talking about the cyborg samurai thing right?

fish032 - thanks! i checked out your blog. you got some cool stuff there. keep it up!

as requested by chupacabra. I took some time to compile this little process image to help illustrate my work flow.

After initial research. I usually start with a few thumbnail and sketches.

    1. After the thumbs get approved, I built a quick 2 hour model in sketch up as the underlay. A drawing could also be done here. but the advantage of sketchup is that I can pan the camera around to find the most suitable composition digitally.

    2. block in the background. I start working from back to front ala traditional painting. Once I get to a point I'll just leave the background as it and never touch it again through out the painting process.

    3. In here I'm collaging photos and then painting over them over the underlay. take a photo with ambient or similar lighting and tweak it into the same perspective (free transform or warp tool) The trick is to not use the whole photo but only the parts that will help you achieve a more believable image.

    4. texture and paint overs are applied throughout the painting.

    5. Let there be light! add the lights to a separate overlay layer. this will help break down shapes and separate planes into a more interesting image.

    6. refinement. details, foreground and color adjustments.

the whole image is about a day and a half of work from thumbs to finish.
