Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
here i want to show you some stuff from my actual project. i hope this fits in here.
im 21 and this is my largest project till now; im working on it since december 2007. i havent a producer or something like that, everything is payed by me and everybody who worked on that worked for free - nearly 30 people.
its a low-budget-short movie called SWARM INTELLIGENCE. the project-homepage can be visited here.
the drawings are not that cool but yeah. the difficulty was to draw stuff that i could build it without millions of dollars but still looks cool.
hope you enjoy
some comments to the pics:
first of all some easy early sketches.
after that the storyboards. just for showing the color-stile and arrangement of some pictures i want. i didnt draw the hole movie like that. and yes, i used a mouse for the coloring
the finished characters pics for continuity. also not the best fotos.
some atmo photo and some movie posters (yes, i was bored )
the set from the rear.
at the end a still foto from our first day. we're were filming in HD quality with a 35-mm-converter.
the film is now in the post-production and in the first half of 2009 finished.
more pics will follow...
thanks for watching. regards

I really like the stuff. This one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1229121403 I think especially good. The costumes look very believable there and not staged. The composition of the line of people in white is really cool too with the reflections and all.
"This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams
My goal: To get good enough to post in the Finally Finished Forum.
One thing is bothering me though
The head of the guy on the right doesn't look quite right
The drawings need a lot of work I think, but the costumes! I have saved them for reference. Very nice idea, I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes.
@Clochette: thanks a lot!
@Lakka: thanks, and youre right: the guys in the middle isnt that cool...
@Max Challie: sure, the drawings could be better, but i just made it for the director of photography and the rest of the crew. they had to know what picture and which kind of light/atmosphere i want. the are light- and atmosphere studys, nothing more...
@ brentos8: thanks a lot.
here are some more costumes. the are very cheap, but they just show up ca. 30 sec of the movie in a very dark scene. not to waiste your time with details you cannot even see is very important... (im sure this was not correct english )
really interesting costumes here! apart from the drawings they are very well executed I bet they will turn out awesome in post-production.
I think it is cool that you share some steps along the production as in this sketchbook/diary-like thread. I got a project going on in my thread too
will there be more news about the short film?
yes, there will be more news. i want to show you more details of the costumes and beside probably some ideas for making those. photos of the set, making of the set, behind the scenes, after that dvd-cover, finished covers, trailers, music, ...
step by step till this is finished...
Serious fun going on here!
You might find Bruce Sterling's short story The Swarm inspirational (it's in Schismatrix+)

Will you start another sketchbook to further your drawing skills?
These second batch of costumes actually looks pretty cliche. In particular, the boss of it all. He just looks like the archetypical mad German scientist out to unleash genocide on the world. I think you can do better than this. I mean let's think about the function of their comstume's features. What does the boss need this magnifying glass on one of his eyes for? When and how is he going to use it? What for? Thinking about the function of these features will help, simply putting them there for a certain look will be counter-productive.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes, though.
@Leo Ki: thanks! but i think the storyboard-thing is overrated for me. they are tools for me, not art, and should take as little time as possible...
@max Challie: if you do a project like this you cannot draw every storyboard like a da vinci. and: its just not neccessary! i want to show you a process, not art. art is the product at the end: the movie.
if i got some time i will do a "non-movie-sketchbook"... till then you could watch my page if you want
of course you're right with the "boss", but the budget doesnt allow other things. by the way, the movie is now in the post, too late for changes
@donalfall: thanks, will be posting with interest
your project is very promising. i was wondering two things, i know only english and american sign language. i don't mind watching a foreign film, but is there a trailer for it? and if not can we, er, I see one? second, what is your film about?
-sombewan, aka, bombedstar
@sombewan1: There will be a trailer, but not yet. just because the projects not finished. The movie will be German with English Subtitles - i think you will be able to read it
hm, the film is about... one guy and two womans from the revolutionary troops are hiding in a basement from "the evil forces". theyre awaiting death and theres nothing to run.
its a really slow movie with a claustrophobic atmosphere and less action. im sorry
i'm sorry if this sounded stupid but its difficult for me in this language
Ah, ok. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
here are some fotos of the shooting. we filmed 8 days:
1 with the children in a bunker
6 in the basement-set
1 outdoor in a "concret-factory"
the basement-set was modular: we could take every wall away to bring the camera and/or dolly in the right position.
we filmed with a 35mm-converter, and because of that we had to bring much more light in there. the set was glowing and the picture was still quite dark...
(the outdoor shooting was fu**ing cold, but yeah, we had coffe!)
ah, Coffee always does the trick. My sketchbook is now themed around coffee.
The projects looks like it's going very well.
@Max Challie: Goddam yes, Coffee is the universe of all. and yes, the projects going very well. no really big problems at all.
@Matsign: thanks, its great that youre all watching!
@DStraX : thanks, and i will keep posting.
@Mischeviouslittleelf: we give our best
3 days ago i started cutting - 200 gb of files.
here are some more stills.
Really enjoying the process. The costumes and sets are very convincing and well put together. Keep it up!
