Some recent works, which I'm somewhat pleased with, but would really love to improve further. I started sculpting just over a year ago, and it's been a rewarding effort. I've been spending alot of time sketching more, and studying animal anatomy, I'm looking forward to seeing how it affects my work.

they are done using the same technique. I carve the plaster after making a general shape sculpture out of sculpey.
They're really good! Cute and creative, well done!
the paint is your average craft metallic acrylic paint and some Golden brand interference paint. It may look more metallic because when I shot photos of her sculpts there ended up being a bit of glare from the lighting.
yup, there is some glare in these photos, but it's ordinary metallic paint applied with an airbrush, with interference violet on the siamese cat for a nice effect. I stink with a camera, and it's only grace of Koishii that the photos came out so well!
Great job. I especially like the second one (nice colors too).
I've been fortunate enough to add a few of the older Windstone sculptures to my ever-expanding gargoyle collection, so I'm familiar with the style. However, while you might have followed a similar process, your artistic voice shines through. And what vibrant colors. The palette you've chosen seems to fit each creature quite nicely.
Of the series, the lounging "dragon dog" (I apologize for my crude interpretation) is my favorite. Lots of personality in the posturing of the beast. It projects a strong feeling of "just let me rest for a minute."
... a cry went up into the shuddering air, and faded to a shrill wailing, passing with the wind, a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up, and was never heard again in that age of this world.
thank you so much. The lounging critter is something I've been calling a Tatzelcat, kindof a scaled lion thing. He's one of my favorites too!
Wow, I'm really impressed, you can certainly tell that you've been hard at work studying animal anatomy, which is something I find pretty difficult to get my head around at times! But anyway, what I like most is the texturing and the way you sculpt makes them look very sleek indeed. You have a distinctive style my friend. And is that acrylic ink that you use? And btw could we see some sketches that you've done? I love to see sketches!
Well done you! :-)
Check out my scary monster thread!
Want lotsa sculpture resources? Add some if you want to!
certainly! Though I must confess that my sketching ability is pretty crappy still. I've been a lurker here for a while, and have only recently started focusing on improving my sketching regularity and quality. I'd read the advice on sketching here, and on using references, and had also been encouraged by koishii to start using them to improve my sculpting. I'll have to start a thread in the sketchbook forum here.
new thread posted...with some of my crappy sketchage! Advice there is always welcome!
To quote Johnny Carson: That is wild stuff!
Great work. Very interesting, unique, and well sculpted. Good paint, too.
thank you so much...here's another one. It's a variation of griffin I've been calling a twittergriffin. They're small, and stand 4 inches high.

another older piece....and the twittergriffin again, his wings really suck. been studying birds lately...and hope to improve on the way muscles and feathers work together, and the layering of them.

I put here juste few word to say that I love your work. Nice sweet and poetic. Congrats,
Really awesome. The dragon-snail creature is a great concept in my opinion and acutally the execution of those ideas was done really well. Its not alway about being 100% correct in anatomy but also about simply looking good And those do.
I'm really wanting to improve the anatomy of my critters, and am hoping my future pieces get progressively better. I've been sketching and studying alot lately, so I'm a bit slow on posting new stuffs, but I will!
Do you sell these? I want a lizardy snail so badly! I love snails... The red one is beautiful
I do sell them, I have a small website that I manage myself, with pieces for sale, among other things! It's www.purplecatcreatives.com if you'd like to visit! I should have a couple new pieces coming soon.
something I just started. Kinda playing around with it right now.

Ok folks...bad news. The sea serpent is having to be reworked due to copyright issues. Please be patient and understanding while I figure out what I'll be doing over this. For those I gave a time estimate to on the production of these, I deeply and sincerly apologize. That is all.
