Thread: Painting hair curls?

Painting hair curls?
So I'm painting this chick, and I need to know how I paint the hair and headband. Do I create a new brush that has the characteristics of hair curls or hair strands? As for the headband, could I do the same thing to capture the bumps and texture? I would appreciate any tutorials, your own examples, sticky threads, and other resources about painting hair, textures or creating brushes.
And by the way, does anybody know how to post the thumbnail next to your thread posting in the long list next to other posts? You know, it kind of previews what you're working on in your post?
Let your haters be your motivators.

It's hard to give specific advice on this image because there are so many other little strands getting in the way, but it's best to think of any portion of hair as a ribbon: at the height of the curl there will be a highlight which drifts off in either direction into darkness. The ribbon of hair is also able to easily change direction and curl over itself. paint the large areas of tone in the ribbon first, then get specific later.
