    AvisNocturna - Hi there!!!
I must say I really liked your comment. I have the same feeling that something is terribly wrong with my paintings. And it is quite frustrating not knowing what it is.
Besides, your comment about me overusing purples in the shadows is perfect!!!!! This new image I'm posting today has this problem.
I'll do what you suggested by studying real life and watching more closely to the edges.
By the way, thank you very much!

This is me trying to do what I have seen here: ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CavSMH32-is ) from David Rapoza. Excellent artist by the way.
About 2h, I think. Definitely not very good, but I'll try a new one soon.
    Cheers!!!

    Still life study.
Not done yet. Still very raw, and it has some drawing problems.
    Anyway...

coffee cup and ashtray are ace.

The hooded Orc looking thing's cool too.

I think the sith lord could use a redo on the right hand... and the saber looks a little short and small.

    Nice work.

fantasyartist - Thanks a lot bro!!!!!!!
I'm practicing as hard as I can these days.

    p sage - Thanks a lot bro!
I'll do the hand of the Sith Lord again as you recommended.
Yeah, hehehe, the sabre looks awfully small. He stole the Yoda's one and changed the color. lol
    Anyway.

    The espresso study. Finished.

    This was my daily practice.
As I said, the original one is not mine.
Phil Hale is a great artist. If you wanna see more of his stuff, which I strongly recommend, check out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Hale (Apparently he doesn't have an official website).
    Cheers.

Well thank you very much!! It is motivating hearing words like those
You're doing pretty dang well yourself!

Now lets get even better, shall we?

Nice updates! And yes, quality is better than quantity of course!
The portrait of your brother is really good, though i am not a big fan of this overexposed colour scheme and light source..it always looks unnatural to me so i'll just talk about his anatomy. I think his neck should be a lot thicker! Because of it, the head looks big in a strange way. Like..you got it right, but there's still something not right. Did you flip the image?
And that right iris seems large to me.

I really like what you did in this second-last post!
The colours..blending..shadow..colours..great!! You didn't texture around the neck though, so it looks a bit to smooth to me..perhaps more folds there would make it look more natural.

    Awaiting your next post!!!

Ah.. the coffee cup is looking badass... and your brother's portrait looks good too. Is that emo chick Gwen Stefani? She's cute.

Good work, my friend. I like what you're doing with colors.

Awesome study man! I love the espresso cup, it's perfect. Although, it seems like it was rendered a little more than the ash tray. It looks great either way!

    Hi Hellfire,
cool sketchbook! I like the fantasy stuff and the girls. Your still-life is good, as well as the studies from the first page. I have a little critique about the pic you posted in #126: It took me a while to see, there are actually two thing - a robot and a character in the foreground. Try to separate these elements better.
    Keep posting!

Nice sb I think you're on the right path with your newest paintings. In the older ones the contrast was a bit too heavy and they looked kinda "fuzzy" IMO. Your stuff is always very controlled and clean-looking (I have the same problem), maybe try going a bit looser and sketchier? Experiment!

I see you haven't updated in here for a while, but I checked your blog and you are doing really good. I think the werewolf for the COW competition is one of your strongest pieces from imagination. It stands out - there's tension there!

Your studies are all excellent. Like how you are studying other artists' execution - looks like it's starting to pay off in the god of death piece. Think I'll have to try that myself at some point!

You've got a great sense of colour (the espresso still life is awesome!) and form in your studies, but at the same time, these areas are a little lacking in some of your paintings from imagination. Remember to apply what you've learned from your studies to your work from imagination. The God of Death illustration is beautifully painted, but a bit flat: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DcyZIeNKGQ...d-of-death.jpg
The rocks he is standing on look like cardboard cut-outs and there are some areas which are completely black, while they should actually, I think, be lit. I.e. his leg and left arm.
I actually think this was better, because the forms were more three dimensional: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DcyZIeNKGQ...ntitled-12.jpg

Anyway, love what I'm seeing so far! I think you are doing really good. And also thanks for dropping by my sketchbook.
