currently working as a conceptartist/designer for a themepark project.

hey guys..here comes the next batch!!

    hi there..
seems like i've been missed out..
doesnt matter, cause im gonna fill this string up...and someday my heroes at massive black are gonna see this.

Please do walk in..please..please.. and do shout inside..

the following ones are also connected to the 'indian gods and godesses sketchbook'...
Except the fifth one-"Kapali"...thats my own character from my upcoming graphic novel.
If things fall in right at the right place and right time,im gonna get some funding to get it printed and ofcourse some money to fly over to COMICON..
    all my fingers are crossed...

The sixth one is about a recent news i heard about this unpaid 'kathakali 'artist who went on a hunger strike...
this costume -"pacha" always depict a calm character...
but i just added a bit of anger in his eyes-tribute to the unpaid artist..!!

    so ..enjoy!!!

Unhappy Time for a change -"Baddies cometh!!"

Im gonna put in a couple of baddies this time
Shakuni - from mahabharath ..the evil uncle who twists the story with the deadly loaded dice game.

Asuras- my own take on the extremes of their clan character.

Vikramaditya & Vetal - not baddies but this is fun..
the story of the wise king and the thousand riddles of a wrethched wise ghost.
Its my stylised take on the topic..
really love this old school kerala mural derivation..

    (sigh)
    I still see nobody around.

    Hope you like these ones..
pls visit and please do shout something..
    please

mate your lines are so fresh and alive! i love it! those colours make them have an otherworldly quality thanks for stopping by my sketchbook, im surprised you stopped on the silhouettes, they were very very basic (and a long time ago..) and i feel i've improved somewhat since i can see your SB is new, even though you've been around for a fair while - i'll definitely be back to check up on your shenanigans

Seriously nice looseness and style to your linework, I must say! Especially in those last few b+w pieces; really loving the wise king + ghost pic, lovely stuff.
Great use of colour too; I really like the first pic of Shiva, good mood captured there...
    Look forwards to more!

it occurs to me that both my emotions and reactions are ill-placed.

    Smile snake women... and more..

    Hiya guys,

    DStraX
    Stoph
    Mr.Jack
... thank you guys for the support... and your most valuable comments
    Im comin up with more..

Asuras - a bit of a character development study...
    I've got SHUKRACHARYA..
According to legend he is a renegade sage ... the guru of the demon clan.

Snake women - Ha..My fave stuff. It was believed that rivals used these seductruses to lure ,poison and kill kings. Known for their astonishing dance skills, I just merged their personality with their form.
Result? a couple of snake women.
Dunno why that lady on bottom left is so pissed off...guess she was expecting a bigger stinger..

And lastly 'The new court dancer' - the king's latest obsession.

    Everybody is welcome.
    come in and shout.
    seeyasoon...

Wow, super lively lines and speed coloring!
I'd love to see full scenes from the stories of the Mahabharata and other tales.
Are pages of your comic project visible somewhere?

    hey animo!
lovely line and color; a great whealth of different faces and characatures here. I think some characters could benefit from a low/high camera angle, like the guy with the loaded dice. but other then that I couldnt think of any crit if I kept trying

    >>SKETCHBOOK. you'll visit me. I'll visit you, we'll have a tea party. with arts and shit. it'll be dreamy. stop by.

I like the last one, it's full of energy and swooshy lines. Just a tip, if you make eveything that saturated, it is difficult to make something look very saturated because we compare the saturation with the surrounding colours. Also, I like more of a painterly approach and paying attention to silhouettes and form. I did a qiuck paintover JUST for fun, there's nothing wrong with your piece...I'm just bored and wanted to show an other approach (more realistic-cartoonish style):

    Keep it up

    ashes
    zelda_geek

thank you for your comments and tips...

    ashes...
i will surely be doing stuff with changing angle..since these were more of character explorations, i preffered the angle to remain flat on face..
i will be preparing a lot of stuff with dynamic cameras..
thanks for being in and keep looking for more..

    Zelda_geek..

    wow..
i liked that one really cool stuff..
im so happy that my work was actually 'redone' by somebody..you just honoured me..thank you..
i see that you have a point there..
well ..there is actually a reason with the saturation thing..
if you have observed theres a bit of 'loudness' associated with our culture.i was just trying to mimic them.its all there in our folk artforms to even the truck makeover bodyart...
but the point is a point...i will surely be taking good care of it...

buy hey..did i loose one star? OMG..gotta work hard to get it back..

keep commenting guys.thanks for the support

Actually the color 'loudness' is very interesting.
It has magic, but also its logic and readability.
I particularly like how you exploit it in skin tones.
Looking forward to your comic and your epic scenes!

I just lost one of my stars yesterday...if you find it pls do return it back

    Twinkle twinkle little star..
How I wonder where you are....

I just got 5 stars yesterday and i was like...'yeaaaaaaaaaaaa'..and then one star got shot down..

Anyways im gonna get it back ..so if anybody finds it..do pls get it back if im worth 'having it back'...

    comin up next...?..ok...

    Asuras ( cute and deadly).

I just wanted to try these baddies in a different style..i often juggle styles ..its a personal exercise..would love to do a picture book if guys like ALBERTO Ruiz ( Brand Studio Press) likes it...It can even be vinyle collectibles..i dunno, dont have the kinda money for any of these..But would like to have a cute flash game done with these guys..
well asuras are almost 4000 of them..so dont worry we will have enough levels...
If you like these guys..dont hesitate to ask for more..
    one 'asura' for each request....

Mahishasura this guy can change himself to a mad raging war bull..kwool enuf..?
Hiranyakashipu he is full of gold ( hiranya = gold) and he is a master of unseen dark arts.( you will see those when this takes some form)

    The princess and the elephant

The story here is completely different.
Uma ( not the thurman lady) is indeed Shiva's wife ..
and the elephant is Ganesha, her son and ofcourse mommy's faithful follower and bodyguard..

    hope you guys like it..
do i see my lost twinkling star..somewhere..?

    take care guys...

still couldnt find that lost star ...:[

    hi mates...
its been 2 days since my last art post and i cant hold a day more...!!!
    comin up this time..?
    a couple of sketchbook pages.

it took sometime for me to get those scanned and then i thought of beautifying it digitally.

    Kanchipuram-
This fabulous little village in southern india is famous for its dazzlingly beautiful godess- Kamakshi ( the one with the sensuous eyes)
and ofcourse for gorgeous , expensive and handcrafted silk.
I thougt the combination is great. Will get more next time...

Any body found that lost star...?..hmm..?

Talking a couple of more sketchbook work

I had an internet connectivity problem for a while..
    guess its ok now...
taking the chance and am posting the following.

    The Brother of Maharaja.
    He is evil..he plays foul.
Look at the devil and he's got an OWL...( hehe..)

    hope you've got the idea.

    Barghav
You may be familiar with an earlier version of him in my first bunch of posts.

Still diggin' deep into his character.
He was a sage ...turned into a warrior.
Since its a complete reverse of his earlier nature and philosophy, I thought fixing the war axe upside down on his holy stick would be ethically correct.

    The King's marriage

I did this exercise for a personal story.

    Seeya soon ...
I'm going to change the game next time... (show you something else)

pls walk in and do comment.

Your stuff is beautiful! Your sketchbook exemplifies what I love about this site-- the opportunity to see designs influenced by a wide variety of cultures. Even though you use similar shapes in your characters, you vary them enough to make each one a delight to look at. I love your use of color as well; everything is cheery and exciting, which is a change from the dark, grim colors you usually see on most of CA. Great stuff! Yours is a book to watch.

    Thumbs up kapali lives!

    finally!!

its great to see u go all guns blazing here... is guru wearing a trenchcoat.. that would be cool! liked shiva (the very first one) and vikram and vetal... sparked some thoughts on a contemporary take on the duo... i simply loved cute 'n deadly - i think they're a very new, fresh new style of urs... uma is classic "noizz" - the colours are so rich and bright.. wonder if the elephant with the purple trunk is hiding something
i've always loved ur black & whites... the maharaja with the owl

    and...
kapali lives!! and u're working on the comic...? wow! post some pages, man... u shud start on it full swing.. dont think too much about the funding.. u can even bring it out as an underground version, spark a new fire, start a revolution...
