just a sketch, oh its a sketchbook so thats ok

so moved to Maine, for job. handed my pt cruiser to my now 16yr old kid. bough a used honda element out of necessity for the trip and headed to Maine. its not going quite that well and the car has been iffy. the other day I was just sketching while waiting for my work pc to crash, and a parody of my own vehicle ensued. I usually have fun mucking up my buddies vehicles. if I get a chance, and something to work with, like a table. I will pen this.

on your digital stuff, try to apply more colours to surfaces since nothing is pure blue, pure black, or pure white. that should solve some of your problems. also, try going for more saturated stuff since most of it looks pretty desaturated. another issue, try NOT starting out with a pure white bg since it kills your eyes.

and thanks for dropping by my sketchbook = )

you point out some interesting items, good ideas.
I try never to use pure black or white, and similar to colors as well. but I do tend to push that way when I cant get what i want for contrast or so.
I have never messed with saturation at all, as I dont fully understand what it does. maybe I need to look around the help sections and practice a couple things with that.

so true on the white background.a lot of my sketches are simply desk doodles while on the phone at work. since I start there, almost always do the same when starting my digital stuff, which is silly I recogonize.

some good points to think and work on, among many other things.

    ball point sketches

I did these handful of ballpoint sketches while I was executing the save crash button on my work computer. thats fun. anyway, there are all unplanned so they are rough, but interesting as I was working through really, lighting issues after I already had work done. anyway, they are sketches so thought I would throw them down in the sketch book.

Some interesting stuff, a bit all over the place but nice variety.
The enviros caught my eye, I would have liked to see some of those more finished and colored. Keep up the good work.

duty imp. yeah I know huh, all over the place. since IM just a hobbyist and always just learning, I dont have any reason for a specific guide to what I do, so yep, all over the place. I looked up your website, good stuff, but um,,,,pretty all over the place as well. me, I consider that a good thing.

I had some time this evening and couldnt decide what to do so I picked one of those enviros to work up, also, taking some earlier crits into consideration. at first I thought I would just speed paint for an hour and let it lie, but now that its this far after an hour, thought maybe I will take it further. we will see, depends on time, but did mess with one, not using white background, desaturating some colors, not using any blacks or whites. we will see where it goes I think.

I messed around with this a bit trying to create some more depth. I did a handful of things but nothing seemed to work for me. even what I have here is not something that is suiting me. I may trim it up, finish the water or something and move on, after all, it was just an expierment to color one of my doodles.

Nice values but you need to give it some more texture and more colours need to be put on those rocks. They look very flat otherwise.

yeah, the flatness is something I am really struggling with. and it not just stuff like this, its everything. I spent some time looking over SOME color tuts, but just not getting enough to know what to do. I think I will use this piece and dink with it just to expierment. of course, this was so unplanned (as is most of my...."work") dont know how far I will get. we will see.
    thnx for the comments.

im not done painting the "ship", but I thought I would throw it on to see the direction. part of it is good, but I am not getting the full effect I was aiming for and not sure why. I will keep on for a bit, but if it doesnt start to turn around, I may abandon it.

I didnt really intend for this to be a wip, but what the hey. I think I will call this done, simply cause IM bored with it now. Learned a couple things though and that was the focus.

    maybe not my best work

but still pretty funny,,,,,if you knew the background. I have parodied buddies cars and stuff, but ran through a difficult time of late. so , thought I would do my own. I posted the sketch some time ago. I just pushed some pixels around tonight.

The last sketch you posted is very nicely composed. I hope you plan on taking it further.

Actually, no I really hadnt intended to go further. I had been doodling some of these on scrap paper at work while waiting on my pc to do something.....anything. a friend really like them and asked if I would do one on better paper, so that is what you see. I think it lacks a focal point of any reall design to spend to much time on, but maybe.

here is another sketch, well for me it was a bit more than a sketch. still in pencil, which I usually dont detail as much as this. there are some anatomy issues for sure, and dont say it, I know the boobies are big, it was intended, the buddy I was created it for, just likes it that way...so there you are. but there are other issues, not bad though. the scan doesnt do it justice...even for me.
