Lateman: Thanks! My color sense is still pretty shaky, but I'm glad it's showing results now and then .

Oh hey, concept art. (Scroll right, there are 3 characters).

(I was actually pretty happy with these, but then I went and looked at some Jason Chan concept art and cried forever T_T)

    RBeek - Good idea

Dope Fiend: Thanks! Do it, it's fun!

Made some changes to the characters, based on feedback from my brother (who is playing art director for the D&D stuff I'm doing).

RBeek - Thanks! Yeah, his head's definitely small, I'm trying to exaggerate stuff like that with these. Trouble is I'm having a monster of a time moving away from realism, so it's clashing a bit. Growing pains .

Kev: Thanks man ! Going till I drop!

    Parsakoira: Thank you, good sah!

    Raminafshari: Thanks!

2 more designs, 6 to go. Yes, that's a Drow bard with bagpipes and a beret.

Hey, I just joined recently and was just browsing through sketchbooks. Your studies from class are great. I love the painterly quality and how you lose details that aren't necessary. I know it's probably due to time limit but I think it looks awesome. I just started a sketchbook myself if you can give me any pointers. Awesome work though.

Sean0131: Thanks! I actually go out of my way to lose details, not a big fan of painting them in most cases. Depends on the piece I guess. I'll check out your SB soon!

Here's the underpainting for a new oil piece, 16X20". I'm starting a series of paintings about romantic relationships. Today I saw this couple at the cafe across from the studio and was missing my camera, so I did some quick sketches of them in my sketchbook and then immediately got to this. I'm mostly working from memory, using some random reference to solve little problems here and there when I need them. Tomorrow I'll start the main paint layer.

Incidentally, I can't imagine who on Earth would benefit from knowing this, but I know I'm always curious about what other artists use. This is my palette for nearly everything-

    Titanium White
    Cadmium Yellow (Winsor Newton)
    Cadmium Red Light (Rembrandt)
    Quinacridone Red (Gamblin)
    Dioxazine Purple (Gamblin)
    Ultramarine Deep (Rembrandt)
    Phthalo Green Yellow Shade (Gamblin)
    Ivory Black (Rembrandt)
    Yellow Ochre Pale (Winsor Newton)
    .
Burnt Sienna (Winsor Newton). This is the only one where brand is important for me, the pigment isn't actually Burnt Sienna, but Transparent Oxide Red. Unlike the Rembrandt pigment of that name, this one comes in a big tube .

That's my core palette. Depending on what I'm working on, I may add Cadmium Orange, Winsor Red, Phthalo Blue, Chromium Oxide Green, Terra Rosa, Indian Red, or Raw Umber.

And, no, I don't use Alizarin Crimson.

Alex: Thanks! Haha, I'd hope the chariot painting looks traditional, it's an oil piece .

GAWD smiling girls are hard to paint. This is going to take a lot more work.

wow sidharth! I have been to this sketchbook quite a few times, but since the last visit there has been a huge level up! I am really really impressed by these oils. Thanks of uploading your palette, I will be reading the last 10 or so pages in order to try and extract some of these oil skills later haha!

Keep up the great work, looking forward to the update on that last piece
