    Hey Rustveld,

Wanted to share my two cents with you.

Firstly, i'd stick to drawing first, get that down then work in colour, rather than both simultaneously. I tried a self portrait in colour pencils and realised I do not have the skill for colour yet, it's a whole other ball game, so I strongly recommend ironing out all the creases in your drawing skills before even using any colour. Also stick with traditional mediums to begin with, leave digital for later.

Having said that your picture of the coins shows a great eye for detail and charactistics of light, so when you do take on colour, you have some skill. The figures and women's faces in 7 though show how great your drawing is, and can become. I cannot repeat enough that if I were you, i'd stick with your drawing, then progress to painting then digital, and your drawing is sooo good that you wouldn't have long to go.

The woman in 14 looks a little chubby, her cheek is too wide and the left eye seems too small.

Girl in 61 seems to have lips that are far too big.

Also your hips on your women are FAAAAAARRRRRR too big, too wide, lol. Sometimes they are even protruding higher than the waist, this creates the illusion that all your women are compressed as if they've been through one of those car crushing machines, practice drawing women from life then let this be a style choice later on if needs be.

Besides this most of your drawings are pretty good and you have certainly covered most of the hard skills in drawing, like hair. How do you draw HAIR? It's AMAZING. Some of your people have hair that suits them, which is cool since you are drawing some from imagination (don't be afraid to draw from life, then your imagination will be better). The girl with leaves in 14 for example, amazing.

The drawing on the right side of the brain book has some info on hair, though i've been unable to grasp it yet. You seem to have intuitively grasped how to render hair, which is cool.

The male face in 107 is amazing considering you are using a small palette of colours.

DRAW THE FULL FIGURE! FROM LIFE! Lol. Dude your drawings are so good that tackling the full figure is your next challenge, while noobs like me are tackling the face, you have most of that down, so the next stage for you is the rest of the person. The drawing of your cousin for example, imagine that with a body, and that's where you are heading next. Now that will be spectactular to look at.

Overall you are using a lot of your potential, there are only little bits you need to get right. Pushing yourself to complete a whole figure and stick with drawing for a while will turn you to a great.

[QUOTE=Rustveld;3113531]Here's another Arawak Girl concept I drew yesterday. This time done with markers and colored pencil.
I have more, but they're still unfinished, and if I don't finish it in one day they usually stay unfinished..

I'm getting tired of drawing the same things over and over, but it's so difficult to get out of my comfort zone. Got to work on that!

    --------------
Get out of your comfort zone!!!! NOW!!

I'm just kidding, though like you said your self, you definitely gotta try and draw some different stuff except beautiful women...men, cars, trees... and etc. that will take you to a new skill level.

    Alex.

Quite an impressive set of portraits you have here, very beautiful indeed. The sketch of Adriana Lima feels a little off to me though I can't quite figure out what it is. Maybe the face needs to be more slender or the lips should be less full. I definitely recognize who it is but it doesn't quite match up. The drawing is still stunning though!

It's refreshing to work on something different. I want to make a fresh start, especially now after not being accepted in the art school I applied earlier in the year. I was told that my creativity wasn't sufficient and ambition not too apparent. I really wasn't expecting a rejection..but that's life.
I'm thinking on applying for TAD, but I'm not sure I can get in, let alone get a scholarship with my current work. Without it I can't afford it.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
MasonJames- Wow, this is the first time I've gotten such a long comment.
I don't think I'll be focusing only on drawing traditionally. I like to work on different mediums simultaneously, that way I'll be more balanced and it's more fun.

yeah the hip thing haha ..I know they are big, but sometimes it's fun to exaggerate. It's only recently that I've been drawing them like that, because it's what I decided would be a characteristic of that particular character, hips that are wider than the shoulders. I'll be working on my anatomy definitely, I have a lot to improve on that regard.

About the hair, it's been mentioned to me before, but I don't think I draw hair particularly well. I have a pretty though time getting hair to look the way I want it to, but I try to have fun with it.

Thank you very much for taking your time to critique and comment on my work!

    Fallenangel
    - Definitely! I made sure to not post until it is something different. It's a bit difficult at first to pick up a pencil and draw something I'm not used to, it's so much easier to draw what I already know. But I'm having fun and learning something new.

ArcZephyer Thank you! Indeed, her cheeks are too chubby, lips are too full and the eyes aren't quite right. You can see the reference here http://adrianalimafan.net/candids/20...ollection-125/. Looking at it again I see that I really messed up, I'll try better next time.

Please post more! Portraits are great, especially the ones in pencil. You manage to draw very expresive faces.

I need to say I'm not in the position to crit, although I could use a hint or two if you have the time to step by my SB.

PS, what did you use for the uploaded portrait on the 1st page? Graphite or Charcoal?

    All the best,

Check out my SB and please leave a comment or something

    Character Concept- Portrait

I want to try and post something everyday.. lets see how long I can keep it up!

I can't say that this is something too different from the usual but it's different enough! Working on concepts for the main male character of my project.

Fallenangel- Thank you! I'll try to do one study everyday.

dac-Thank you! I'll have a look at your SB later today, don't know how much help I'll be though.
My drawing are drawn with graphite, mostly 2B and 6B or higher for the darkest parts, I've never really tried drawing seriously with charcoal before.

    Thumbs up

Good skills with the pencil and faces.

Keep working on the anatomy of the body and some twisting poses.

    Good to be back!

A few days after I made it my goal to finish my WIP's my pc stopped working.. so I took an unwanted break in that regard, which might have been a good thing in the end. It's been a month since then and I'm currently using my sisters laptop. I can now continue, need to start doing more studies.

    Here's 2 WIP's

Hey cool stuff. I like the archer design up there and your portraits they are very distinct. I was going to mention the hand on the samurai but you seem to be on top of that already.

Your pencil stuff is amazing! You're motivating me to work harder on my own
The female portraits is what I like the most, very lovely features and a nice exotic mood to them.

Great sketchbook. I love your approach to portrait painting... they look very alive and emotional.
