Been visiting this site more often lately and figured I'd join the party. There's lots of useful info here and I'd like some crits so I can suck less and have more fun!
thanks for the crit munin! they are acrylic with the dude crapped on in ps, I need to learn better simplification for readability!
an enviro with some messed up perspective, but fun!
here's conan after a good slaying
hey man! Nice to see you here now! Keep rocking those studies! Seems the Tokyo trip had an effect on you, last enviro is looking quite nice!
thanks hidey! Tokyo has alot of awesome sights to see, I'm a moron for not doing any cityscapes after that trip.
painter has been screwing up for me lately, I keep crashing it with the watercolor application but here's a study that survived
heres a boring samurai
thanks notic! A couple more
a building with some crap perspective, this is what happens with no block model
some real sketchbook! its weird, these show in "thumbnail" form but not in attached form, i guess its just dumb
more of the things
time to snooze
gonna play with cities for a few, something doesn't quite work in this one I think, maybe needs better broad value relationships?
trying to life study more
some more studies
a little ditty
hey thanks for dropping by my sketchbook , anyway
i love ur brush strokes alot, expressive and workin well for ya,
the head rotation needs more work though, its too soft to have the mass of a skull, but over all great sb ,keep on going at it, great stuff!
The only real failure is the failure to try
Yeah! thats the stuff, really nice sketch.
I think the direction you're taking is sound, and your constant self criticism is always relevant and is one of the most important assets any artist can have. It should take you to good places. Are you attending any life drawing classes?
Hey man, nice to see some drawings from ya.
Ead-Thanks man, no life classes right now, although I might just walk in some, its not credit I'm after!
Nynthe- I think i've been waiting to hear that, some simplification and refinement will be a focus for future characters of mine!
Lakka- nice to see you here! and thankyou!
Painted this before hearing nythe's crit about messyness, don't kill me (also playing with some custom brushes I found here, fun stuff)
I think to combat the messiness you could start out by using larger brushes and then work your way down from there.
Great environments by the way, and I looove those pen and ink sketches.
Keep it up!
thankyou kimbot, using big brushes is one of those things I know...but tend to forget in the heat of painting- I'm learning the fun is in the big values. Also gotta learn not to skip stages of preparation, a building doesn't stand so well without the framework.
some dude cleaning a wheel, should've worked out the structure better-
really good speedpaints, dude.
you have a lot of movement in your brushstrokes.
but some of your works would benefit of a bit more contrast and sharp edges.
on that last one the figure almost gets lost in the surroundings because of values and edges for example on his legs.
love these citiscapes, though. especially the last one looks great.
Also nice tones and values with your studies
thanks guys, I'll do a few drawings to finish and see If I can get some ideas on edges, I'm gonna get on some anatomy studies aswell! Right now I'm trying to learn stroke economy and how to keep the values in their right places, there can't be more than one strongest in a painting and getting all that in order is key. Its all illustrating forms, but which form has the most range of value? usually the focus!
heres the backyard, taking a break in TN, gotta love the woods!
