w00t!!!!!! You should hear NYC right now. It's a celebration outside and I live in a pretty quiet part of town. Air horns, a few fireworks, cheering, and cabs leaning on their horns. This has been going on without letting up for the last half hour. Crazy!

"This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams

I suggest everyone buy a newspaper, collect Obama signs and flyers. Preserve them and put them up, as they are now artifacts of an historical moment.

Sorry but the combo breaker isn't 100% right, Abraham Lincoln was also half black.
"Author Dr. Leroy Vaughn in his book "Black People and Their Place in History" writes, "Lincoln had very dark skin and coarse hair and his mother allegedly came from an Ethiopian tribe. His heritage fueled so much controversy that Lincoln was nicknamed "Abraham Africanus the First" by his presidential opponents and cartoons were drawn depicting him as a Negro."

In a book entitled "The Hidden Lincoln" written by William Herndon, Lincoln's law office partner said that Lincoln's father of record, Thomas Lincoln, could not have been Lincoln's father because he was sterile from childhood mumps and later castrated. "

Here is another link to an article about it. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/welc...8GCG31C7TJFG5L

Obama has so many electoral votes that there is no way mathematically possible for McCain to win. Even if all the remaining votes were McCain, Obama would still win.

Well, he's the President Elect. That's official enough. He's got more than enough electoral votes.

I don't know about you guys, but what an amazing night. I honestly don't think I've ever felt more pride in my country and more hopeful for a better world than I was tonight. Barack's speech was beautiful, McCain's concession was heartfelt and unifying... I've never actually teared up over politics before. This is a first.

What great news to wake up to! Dem's sweep all the elections! Now, I hope they don't screw it up! Obama's won his first major victory, but there are a thousand impossible struggles ahead. Here's to hope!

One sad thing, pretty much every ban on gay marriage has won...

One thing I found amazing: Massachusetts voted overwhelmingly to keep the income tax! You'd think giving voters such an opportunity would be no contest the other way!

Gee! You'd think maybe they're smart enough to know that we citizens don't get anything for free? Naaahhhhhhhhh...especially with a state as rabidly Republican and reactionary as they are...

I can't think of anything more to say, than that i am proud of america today. Proud to be an american and proud to have taken part in this historic day. I don't have a doubt in my mind that Obama will bring about the change in the united states that we've needed, not to mention the worldwide change. Congrats obama, and congrats to the united states.

i'll be watching the oregon senate race between merkley and smith and the minnesota race between coleman and franken all night. theyre both very close.

Prop 8 in cali is really bumming me out....
add to that Prop 102 in Arizona,
    and Arkansas Initiative 1,
    and Florida Amendment 2.

but a third term of the Bush Crime Family not being a threat is a great relief that hasn't fully sunk in.
