Unhappy Painter X problem dont know which brushes to use

I have been looking at a lot of video tutorials on youtube and I bought 2 massive black tutorials on their website showing how to make a digital painting in Corel Painter X. But some of the tutorials I have watched go way too fast and I cant keep up with them. Can anyone give me some advice on what brushes to use in Painter X because there are so many brushes in Painter X and I find it confusing. I would like to know what brushes would be recommended for fantasy creatures and and people. I am reading quite a bit about Painter X but it is still a lot to take in

The only way you'll learn which brushes to use is basically understanding how they work, so that you can tweak them to your style.

If it's too fast it means you're still learning and you may just have to learn the old school pencil and paper.

http://painterfactory.com/forums/ Is also a place to look around, but Telling you what brushes to use is a very loaded task. There isn't a right answer.

Forget the default brushes, they are junk that just showcases Painter's brush engines and don't have any real practical use. Look for custom brushes or read the manual to get the brushes to do what you want them to do.

not quite........... i would phrase it more like- the variants dont all behave as you would expect them to when compared to real media, however most default brushes are fine and only need minor tweaks defendant on ones personal preferences. most ppl use default brushes with slight tweaks this is why unlike photoshop there arent that many custom brushes floating about. i would agree though that you should read the manual and adjust the defaulfs according to your preferences.

Just pause the video and replay small sections as often as you need to understand it.
