Thread: Character Animation
October 28th, 2008 #1
Hi, new person here c: this topic is to show you what I've got really, I've been animating for about 8 years so I feel I have 1 or 2 fine examples to show people.
Rat 2 Trailer
trailer for my next movie, Its in the colouring stage now, I hope to have it completed in the next couple of months. By far the best work I've done in an animation.
Shows most of what I really enjoy, making characters move around on the screen etc.
animation made last year, some scenes in there are still quite good, some not so.
hope you enjoy em c:

You have some pretty cool stuff.
I think the middle one is my favorite... You have some really tough movement in there.

Wow , I was really impressed by your work have you tried submitting this on animation world network. The quality in the Desert is phenomenal. What did you do this for?

thanks for the comments c:
coutmecha: It was origionally intended for a collaboration of small animations however the whole project seemed to have haulted and I extended the animation I made to make a small short out of it. I posted it on the AWN forums a while back, didnt seem to get much notice on there though.
another little animation to share its much shorter then the other pieces I've shown here.

midknight523: thanks c: the song is yngwie malmsteen - treasure from the east.
coutmecha: I'm not in school any more, I graduated university a while back. mainly working on my own skills, removing anything that I could improve on.
Also I responded to your earlier post to but the symbol in your user name made that section of my comment vanish lol. Guess that synax actually works here on the boards. If you are familiar with programming you know the display command. Including only one bracket in the icon name was actually a typo so I didn't know whether it would have worked! Guess it did.
Sorry to hear about your group project but expanding you traditional skill especially if you have formal training is a wise thing i think. I know I am trying to put together a pipeline for finishing animations. I really enjoy the flow of your work. Your work on the desert seems to be of a higher quality or the culmination of your test/practice animations. Are you planning on working with other people on your projects?

freelance wise, I'm working with other people on a project right now as an animator, I do some of the rough sequences and it gets sent off to some one who cleans it up. I know the creator reasonably well through the internet, I don’t know any of the other guys working on the project though. It is certainly interesting working this way seeing as I've been on my own on projects up till now. I still like the control I can have on solo projects and from years to come they represent how well I could animate at that point and how far I've improved. Its not a paid gig though but It will certainly make some good CV/Show reel material.

wow, your stuffs are really good. The Showreel is really nice but I gotta say that the Red Desert is even better.
My questions: How many people you worked with or just you? and how long did it take for each

Blist: I worked on my own for the red desert animation however the music was scored by Matthew A Weber. That animation was very unique because it was my first real play at creating effects and atmosphere in an animation by using what flash 8 had to offer. I cant honestly remember how long the piece took.. it was during a hectic time at university. the cartoony cat one took about 40 minutes I think and I've been working on and off on the rat 2 animation.

You have gone from masterful to a true expert.
Seriously, such complex movements and detail, rendered so smoothly. You are one of those people who gives me hope for the animation industry. I wish that there were full length movies animated as incredibly as your shorts.
I hope that some day you manage to pull that off.
I also wish that you were an active force in the cartoons currently on TV.
