    I'm still hungry...(UPDATE! 10/27/08)

I had fun with this one. I wanted make it seem like he's been surprised, but is quickly deciding you look tastier than the fellow he's midway through. Hope you like, and fire away with any crits.

The blood is slightly too bright/saturated to look like real blood, although it goes well with the creature's eyes. However, this is probably excusable in fantasy illustration, as many fantasy artists exaggerate the saturation or color of blood for effect. Looks like stiff, thick, long hair. A disturbing creature. I might add a little bit of a highlight to one or two of the veins on the forehead, to suggest the same shine or moistness we see on the ear or the shoulder. Interesting stylistic choice the way the rendering is more detailed around the eye and hand, but very rough for the background and edges of the image (like the bicep area on the left arm, which is hanging down). That tells us clearly where the focus of attention should be. It is a choice, however, and the alternative would have been to apply the same level of polish to the rest of the picture as well. Could be a partially transformed vampire, or perhaps one of those cryptids that show up on Monster Quest on the History Channel. Great work!

The eye is great, good colour choices, the veins and fur could be a little sharper and more pronounced, nice image however........

Thanks for the comments everybody! I have implemented some of the crits, little more definition to the veins, a tad more polish in a couple sloppy areas, desaturate on the blood, as well as brightening the background (monitors at work revealed it to be quite dark)

Dahami: Very insightful crit. Thank you. I do have a tendency to try to draw focus with detail and leave the rest loose. It's economic and I like the way it looks. However, it's a slippery slope sometimes resulting in a half finished looking piece. Justin Sweet rocks at it.

So, here is a creature concept I did for an internet show I worked on called Sanctuary.
