Exclamation You want to make games?

If you have a kick ass concept for a game and if you know how to do stuff in C++ (or you know someone who does) now is your chance.

    HERE

By the way N-GAGE rules. Games and graphic and stuff is sooo sweet!!!

Personally I hate these type of contests. It's a smart way for a company to
get a whole bunch of work done for free, by preying on artists' need and
    vulnerability.(Plus a good marketing ploy)

Totally devalues what artists do. I mean isn't this concept art. Is it not the
whole point of concept artists to get paid to create ideas and concepts?

I'm an illustrator and a big thing nowadays is ad agencies or clients hiring several
firms to come up with different ideas. But everyone gets paid. My girlfriend is
doing one right now at her table 5 feet away from me. It's a good way to
sketch a day away and get paid. And maybe you'll get the job and the bigger bucks,
or maybe not, but at least you are reasonably compensated for your WORK.

    IMHO,

    W. Hand

:chug: hey! This is the first time i've seen you post here!

When you taught us this, it totally changed my outlook on illustration. It solidified the neccessity of what we do, as well as the dignity of it.

I just got one for my birthday two days ago (and a game).
Who cares for the mobile phone, it's full powerfull games console with possibilities of playing real one movies,mp3, internet connection (multiplayer) and 3d graphic. Tomb Raider, Red Faction…
And you can hook it to your PC to manipulate and download files, etc…
    It is so fuckin sweet!!!

My worry would be that doing this WOULD be getting my name out there.
I would be worried that doing this could suggest that I do not
value my work highly and will do work on the cheap (or free?)

Having seen that I (and others) will do work on spec I would worry that potential
future clients would expect the same from me. Why should they pay me when they
can get someone to work for free.

I know all this is hypothetical and really this company is doing this as a
marketing gimmic to promote the handheld to the technology crowd.
But to use a couple of cliches, Working on spec is a slippery slope, you
give them an inch sooner or later they are going to take a few miles.

I am in this business for the long haul and I fear business practices
such as these will erode the longterm viability of art related careers.

One other thing comes to mind, is 15, 000 euros the going rate for a
game? Seems a game would be a lot of work and worth a lot more.
(I am guessing you would have to hand over the copyright?)

Just my thoughts, sorry if I come off too harsh. Alternate points of view
    welcome.

    Paranoidly yours,
    W. Hand

PS. Matt, I began visiting here after you or someone else in class mentioned it.
Great place, I have learned a lot and been introduced to some really interesting art.
Generally don't have much too say. (Except today it seems, I'm avoiding work?)

I know there are some people here who are doing pixel art/programming and I was thinking that they would be interested.
For a small team (3-4) people who have ability to program/create WAP games and want to put their names on the market (behind their title) I was under impression that this is ok opportunity.

Multimedia Fusion is the most flexible, powerful, and full-featured authoring tool available today. Best of all, you can get superior and impressive results with no programming skills or knowledge required. Discover the secret tool used by so many multimedia pros, game creators, and people from all walks of life.
I’ve tried it myself and it’s pretty easy and it’s free (kind of) but my love and devotion to art (as in illustrations and paintings) took back over and I’ve lost interest. I’m sure that some of you are familiar with MacroMedia Fusion if not here is the link
    HERE!!!

I’ve also found some games that are made in this program by the “team” of one person!!!
That was my point of posting this nokia thing in the first place.
P.S.-Nintendo have similar contest on the their site every now and then and is offering same (or similar) deals for their GameBoyAdvance.

    Comments people ?

Darkcult, I again apologize if I came off too aggressive, I don't want to sound like a wanna-be know it all, I think this subject is just a pet peeve of mine.

No worries, that is the whole point: sharing experiences and expanding knowledge and ideas on the whole gaming industry subject. Thank you for participating in this thread because I’m not fully sure myself how the whole business/corporation thing works in this industry.
