FraserMcT: thanks mate. agreed on the wings. and not only that, i think they dont quite work in perspective (?) anyhowI actually worked on the second piece for a bit, but it felt like a dead end so I gave up on this thankies

a color experiment to start the week. I felt very helpless during the process. I was trying to pull some landscape from mind. but the result is completly different:/ just showed that I need to enlarge my "library" and study from referenceI guessyou tell me

    cheers

Hi there, on the earlier blue mountain, if you want to convey scale and depth in enviroment, you can't do it without atmospheric effect. Maybe you know this already but in that blue mountain image this is what was missing and did not give it feel of massive scale. Look pictures under what i mean.

The latest mountain and buildings, really good! What brushes did you use? they have nice pattern in it.

    Keep at it definitely

Nice job on the last landscape there. I feel like it doesn't really have a focal point. I'd suggest throwing in some dappled light on a couple of places to draw the eye as well as to add visual interest. Perhaps just lighting up the architecture in the back, the top of the ice path near where it meets the water... and some sparkly shiny spots on the water to indicate reflected sunlight.

I'd also suggest leveling off the icebergs in the foreground so they echo the ice path more.

The birds are a nice touch but they look a little big for where they're placed.

Lastly, I think the near side of the mountains could use a touch more nitty gritty detail to further bring out a greater sense of depth.

Hey. Just realised that I didn't give a comment on your newest piece. I love it. I personally prefer the version without the birds and iceberg, because I think that the icebergs were of a lower finish. Maybe if you spent some more time getting the details sharp on them I would change my mind.
    More updates please!

@Nettle_Mountain: "atmospheric effect" haha, had a hard time figuring out what you meant. first, I thought you were talking about some scientific phenomenon. light bouncing around in the atmosphere or so but then it mad click I know it as atmospheric perspective, but whatever, names are not important. thanks for pointing out.

about brushes: I got 2 brushes from Whit Brachna that I modified. both creat a really noisy markand then I use the "unsharp mask" filterI guess that creates the pattern you are referring to. Playing around with that filter is kind of cool

@Turbosnail: thank you very much sir!

@SamC: thanks. more portraiture is coming!

@Traveler: neat, thank you, that is a great batch of critique right there. the painting is already a few weeks old but I think it would be worth putting your points in it. I particularly agree on the focal point thingy. must change that.

@FraserMcT: why cant I haz my Izebergz? if Ill work on it again, Ill consider your words. updating is going to be more frequently from now on. and that has a solid reason!!! read below

so I kick in that update because tomorrow is a special day. And I dont wanna be unprepared. its not that Ive been slacking completely. I know school is a bad excuse but shit was going to hit the fan. and the last thing I can use right now is a critical school situation. I need my energy for a particular project thats starting tomorrow: DISCOVERY!
Im fucking thrilled! !!!!1!!!1 ! ah!. more on that tomorrow. I need to write down some goals for this February and the discovery program.

so nuff words for today, lemme drop that sketch batch before I wander around your lovely sketchbooks

really, hardly more that sketches from mind, except that portrait study obviously. thought the ref would be useful when giving critique

    Hey, nice update again
On the portrait, I think you started with details too early, as some of the larger shapes seem a bit off, most noticeably the back and neck, and the upper lip. I think you could also push the value range, as the photo has whiter whites and blacker blacks.
Very nice colours on the bottom two environments. I think the top two could have a much larger variation in colour, although they are still so much better than I could do hahaha.
    Keep it up mother funk.
