WIP Concepts and illustrations
I'm working on character concepts for an educational project of mine called "Project Bound Souls". The whole idea and concept of the story revolves around Electro-magnetic resources in the distant future.
The world is a thrilling, ruined and almost hellish science-fiction.
All these designs are not yet final, except for the main character who is almost there...
The characters have some similar equipment such as the visors and some parts of armour. Height and build vary.
Constructive criticism is welcomed as I love to learn more and more.
Version 1 -
Other Character Concepts:
Human Heavy Assault-
Main Character Concepts-
Bound Soul Heavy Assault V.1-
Bound Soul Heavy Assault V.2-
Bound Soul Heavy Assault V.3-
Bound Soul Sniper-

These designs are coming along nicely. Thanks for showing us your thought process on some of them.
The only critique I have is on Bound Soul Heavy Assault V.2-, where you have this large fire raging behind the soldier but none of that fire light is affecting him. His entire back would be lit up with orange and yellows if we were standing behind him. So from the front we'd see that light tapering off on either side of his leg and other rounded objects.
Hope that makes sense.
I made a quick paint over to show what I meant. One thing I forgot to mention is that with the light hitting on both sides, your terminator will then run down more to the middle, like on the left leg. This is not perfect as I did it in about 5 minutes

Great designs, I particularly like your armor designs, they're very cool.
A small critique is that in that last pic, the "poster" as it were, it feels like his shoulders are far too droopy. Then again, I'm terrible at anatomy, so who am I to say?

(Head explodes from too much awesome)
Well, really, fantastic armor designs. Really cool. Reminds me of dead space meets call of duty 4 in the future. Your realizing my dream, my friend. And just gave me a whole lot of inspiration to work from.
The only thing that confuses me is the different color styles. You seem to have some desert camo mixed with city/space camo, that could easily be explained, I just don't have any info on the theaters or worlds these guys operate on. Just thought I would point it out.
The piece with the green lasers is fantastic.
Are these all for a personal project? How long did the first pic and any others like it take?

the heavy assault v.1 is the best out of the bunch in terms of overall rendering and detail IMHO. A critique for the V.2 suit/mecha w/e I think if you made his pose a bit more dynamic as in- really dig his right leg into the concrete- make him believably bracing himself against the onslaught of laser fire. Right now he just looks like- "yeah its cool..laser fire..meh"

I love how controlled, tight, and locked down Version 1, 2, and 3 look on the main character. How long did each one take you? Were you sitting down?
Very creamy, sculpty, smooth, finished blending....must have taken you a while to do some of those parts eh?
Looks clean, industrial, hierarchial, status-like to it...

Looks great! I like the characters and the armours. I`d just like to see more illustrations with different situations. Combat poses and ammo are already great!

These are for a university project. And to answer your other question, The time spent on each image varies. I start off by drawing a simple and quick concept in about 30 mins to about an hour. But I have a habbit of detailing images after theyre done and takes more time to mess around with the effects, lighting, background, posture etc.
The images with characters only might take upto an hour or two. Depends on how detailed I want the image to be.

lol Yes, I was sitting down. The first version (the grey one) took about 30 mins up to an hour while i was in class. the other two took about 15 - 30 mins each trying out different designs and changing postures.
I would like my work to be more sketchy and textured but I cant help myself detailing and refining everything... I try to be a perfectionist lol
