pandawhipped: I try to draw from life all the time. It's one of the best things to do imo. I suggest going down to a borders/coffee shop and sit down somewhere and just draw people. Even if they're moving or whatever. Noone hardly notices and if they do i just look away.
    Works everytime!

strych9: Im glad u can see the growth. For the Schiele drawings we had to be confident. Thats one of the things that Egon did. Confidence was the key, so i ran with it. It helped tremendously!

spok: Thanks for that comment. I think they're all right, not the worlds best thing, but okay. It feels nice to hear u say that though.

    yaaay schiele

ink - i hadn't read your text, was just taking in the images, and was thinking schiele...schiele...schiele....

then i saw he was one of your faves. wicked cool man...you've captured some of his insanely cool line work. i am very impressed. my efforts to do the same were fraught with peril and appeared to be the work of a one eyed infant. i lacked confidence - it looked like timidity, yours are strong and oh so cool.

amazing work - keep it up!

iwasink, you're growth in art school is staggering, i wish i had this much motivation when i was still going. of course, conceptart wasn't up then. all i'm saying is that your growing in a good way. hope to see more goodness in the near future. i especially love the loose experimental drawings.

Endregan(Jack): Thx. It's fun to experiment
    Loras:thx
Maldrin: You should retry drawing like Schiele. Confidence is key, but once you get the hang of it, its really enjoyable.
Storm:Thx for the kind words. I am very motivated. Theres so many things around me that push me to become a better artist. CA is definetely one of them. I  CA!
Mindcandyman:Why dont you try it one day? Will you get to experiment later on, or how do things work at the atelier?

Well fellas, heres another set of fig drawings where we drew on toned paper with ivory white combined with charcoal(I used conte). The purpose of this exercise was to use the tone of the paper as the middle ground so that you only drew the darks and the lights. It was tough at first, but I liked using this method a lot.

First off are the more sketchier and faster poses(5 mins. I think) and for some reason I like these a lot more than my longer poses. I think its because I like the fresh look of the fast ones, but at the same time I like the more precise touch to some of the longer poses. I guess I'll just keep practicing until I find the middle ground.
    Anyways, here u go:

For this one we were looking at Tiepolo's drawings and we used the red carbothello pencils and used white only at the hotspots.

Mmm...I just recently did some of my first black/white on gray paper drawings. It's really fun. Yours are great! You obviously know the figure and how to render it well...a very solid and confident feel with all of them. I'm really digging it.

Did you use both black and white conte? Or just conte for the black and white charcoal? Either way, very confident work. Bravo!

Hey Android! That put a huge smile on my face. Thanks!

    Refrigirator & Josef: thanks

fukifino: I used black conte and ivory nupastel sticks. I sanded one side of the stick to a long point and used that. But Ive used the white charocal pencils and those work just as well. The trick is to get a smooth and long tip on whatever u use. that way you get a nice line variety.

I really like this thread alot, the life drawings are awesome and the originality and imagination in the sketches is great. My only crit is that sometimes in your concepts peoples shoulder/arms start too low and give many of the figures a slump-shouldered look. Keep up the good work.

these are fantastic dude...I love them. So loose and tight at the same time...amazing. At the atelier they approach the life drawings in a more drawn out way...which is good but I don't get the quick gestural qualities that you get. I may need to go to some other life drawing sessions to practice this sort of thing.

    Ive returned!

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. It means a lot!

I've been really busy with school and different projects that I haven't been able to update this thread. But after the long wait here it is. First Ill post some sketches I did in my sketchbook. In my sketchbook Ive slowly started to think about design and layout of the pages. As of last week or so Ive started to think more about composition of the page and design the page as opposed to just having drawings in it. One fault I know I have is that I tend to stick to my own cruches when I draw. I almost always start out with the face. I was talking to wes9000 once about how he starts his pages and he says he starts out very loose and gestural. So since I ten to tighten up, I'm going to be approaching things that way.

Oh yeah, some of the drawings are done in mechanical pencil, hi-tec-c pens, and a combo of both. I'd like to hear comments and crits. Also things you see I need improvement on. Anyways.....ON WITH THE SHOW!!!

Fuckin awesome work man. I especially love your life drawings. I'm curious what supplies you used for this sketch. I'm doing figure drawing tomorrow and I'd like to try that out.

dako: For that drawing I drew on grey canson paper with Conte 1710 2B pencils. For the highlights I used ivory nupastel and sanded the tip down to a point. ( a tip for drawing that way is to let your paper be the middle value and dont let any of your darks and lights come to close together, but rather let the color of the paper make that transition for you)

For one of my classes we were drawing facial expressions and dealing with emotion. So we were given a list of emotions and we had to take pics of someone making those expressions. I chose my main man Alec! Whose one of the funniest guys I know.

After drawing him this is what I came up with.
I used woodless pencils and I drew on printer paper. (I especially liked drawing on it because it was suuuuuuuuuuuper smoooth and my pencil glided really well over the paper)
