Undertow He is supposed to be piloting something, and well...it's something I have to work on. It is too dark and I need to show more subtlety in the shadows.

Endregan It was a costume man. It's a 7 hr. acrylic painting class. My instructor worked on the storyboards for the original star wars. How's that for cool factor huh? You're right about the edges. They are pretty blendy and soft, but mainly (it's just an excuse I guess) it's cuz I'm working on painter. I think I may have modified my brushes too much and they're a tad on the soft side. That's when I switch over to photoshop for the crisp clean edges. (That's something I still have to figure out with digital painting... )
I'll go check out your thread to see what you've been up to. I had been wondering where you were a while back, but its good to see your out and working on hard. Keep it up man!

IanE Thx man, I've been messing around with ps and Ive found that I like the crispness of the edges I get with it....if anyone knows what brushes I can use in painter to achieve a nice hard edge...please let me know.

Flex THx dood. That's really flattering.
I was actually looking at Dan's work a bit, while I worked on this...so I guess some of his awesomeness has rubbed off.

LightKirtar Thx. I still refined those hands a tiny bit more in a few places. Those hands are really cool. Fun to draw/paint huh? High five...

panda thx panda. Ive never seen much of hack/sign so I'm not sure of who you're talking about, but thx anyway

cateaicOh I'm still alive and kicking! I just dont get to update as often as I'd like.

johnnyThx. Im still working on it, and its going a little slow.

Well, here's some new sketch pages...so yeah...
    Enjoy!

I decided to show the pages next to each other as they show in my sketchbook. Don't know if it works well or not.

some figure studies in workshop. The cool thing is that I understood some new things by trial and error. My first drawings(this first page) were okay and perhaps a little gestural than normal. Then I tightened up a bit and the drawings have less life to em(shucks! ) but then again by the end I tried going much faster and really like my results. So it was a good day!

    The Cadaver Carver Critiques!

Nice figure works ___ the last ones are the best ____ you move in and out of the zone a lot in workshops and labs ____ it is difficult to keep your brain and hand on the same page for 3 or 4 hours!

Some days you can get there at all ____ good works here!

mentler I totally agree with you.
It is hard for me...for some odd reason, to keep it consistent. But one day I'll be able to do it.

King Odessa Thx. I always try and incorporate composition into my sb pages. Nice of you to notice

Gaboartpages fruit studies encouraged me to give it a try and here it is.

hey man, these recent updates have been great...i especially like all the pages of gestures, they look great, fast, and really well constructed...thats awesome that you have a pen and ink class man, i'm really jealous of that. haha...for your most recent post, that skull painting looks great, good choicce of colours to define it. the robot looks good either way, i'd kinda prefer floating though, but if it could use anything, i think it'd just be some more definition. also, the hunched over guy sketch is great, you're maintaining a lot of gesture in your works and its really bringing a lot of life to them. keep it up man

btw, we live in the same freakin city man! I live in Chino as well.
I never thought I'd find another Ca member livin in Chino. Sweeeeeet.....

panda Thx for the suggestion. A huge flying beetle sounds like a great idea.
I'm painting the skull heads just cuz I have one and so I light it and paint it. Plus I study it to understand the human head a little better.

cburt Thx for the comments C. That's one thing I've been thinking a lot about lately. Ive been looking at animation and artists like Glen Keane and such.

Wow, your stuff is amazing! That last ink study Is my favorite, although it's all really fantastic. You can really work the pen, your portrait and that gorilla page are great too. It would be cool to see you incorporate some of your mechanical work in with that sort of whimsical pen-and-ink style that you are doing, I think it could perhaps lead to something totally bizarre and cool, if you have the patience for it! Mad skills, keep it up yo!

    Wow, cool ink job dude.
I was looking at your robot thing, you should play more with the values to show whats in front of what. And add some details to contrast the major forms.
I was wondering if you got more figure studies, or long poses to show.
Anyways, yer work is looking great. Keep it up.

    Cheers

Oskar!! How the hell are you man?

This stuff is looking really good. And that oil paint skull study is great. WAY the hell better than the digital ones. You are certainly rockin' it man. I'm lovin' the textures you're getting with the pen and ink, and the exploration is really fun to see. Anywho, keep goin! Peace out homez.

Incredible stuff, i envy you so much to have a pen and ink class

Do you think you could tell us what kind of exercices, assignments you had? which made you progress ? i'd like to progress in that area,

is the book rendering in pen and ink (watson gupill i think) good ? (if you know about it, i find it quite good, but i'd like to know your point of view)

anyway keep updating often, it's sweet

    hey man awesomeee

Your putting your technical knowledge of figure and starting to get more gestural!! This will bring your sketches to life , I can already see an improvement.

sounds like u have some crazy cool classes.... 7hr acrylic class would be amazing!!! Here painting is like 2-3 hour class and by the time u get into it or if u mess up time is up and we move on to something else......

Nun costume hehe I need one of those.

alright gotta go. Keep it up!
