Dario's Sketchbook II
I've pretty much dumped my last sketchbook and thought it may be the time to start a new one. Most of the picture links don't work anymore, so i'll use the attachement system from now on. To introduce myself once more... I'm 24, currently studying Fine Art at the university of applied arts in vienna, but theres only one more year to go and as i already started to freelance in the game industry for a while i can't wait to do this fulltime. I also spent some time drawing storyboards for commercials - a very good and healthy experience.
I'll be posting very random stuff, starting with this mix of more or less recently done pieces. Different mediums, mostly traditional as you probably noticed. Oils, gouache and the good ol pencil. I hope you enjoy.

Great to have you back! Your pencils are simply off the hook! And those oils are rad!
What kind of paper are you using for the pencil works?

-Hideyoshi: Thanks! I appreciate the charming welcome! Most of the sketches are done in my standard sized... sketchbook! Hahnemühle, A4, 180g paper. Nothing special. I only use a 2B pencil, gives me all the tones i need.
-Mischeviouslittleelf: Thank you too, but i would never call myself a master of fine art. Comparing me with my fellow students i have little to deal with the contamporary art scene. At least here in vienna. In the end i'm studying the wrong thing, but unfortunately there ain't any option in austria. Was thinking about studying some time in the states, simply to get a good basis in terms of concept art and design. Something i greatly miss to have... basic understanding of the matter, a well founded craftmanship. So far i'm only self-taught and it's a shame i couldn't find any decent education. The study in vienna is just for the grade. But enough ranting...
I don't want to post without showing some work so i utilize the freshness of my sketchbook and post some older stuff. These concepts were done for the last Dominance War. Big fun and something i learned a lot from.
All Painter X and pencilz.

Thank you all for the nice comments!
-Hideyoshi: Jo ich war dabei. Find dein Zeug auch immer besser, freut mich also positives Feedback von dir zu bekommen.
-Brun: Thanks a lot for the nice words! I really like your work, just checked your sketchbook and as i wrote you it gave me some air to breath. Man, i almost forgot how good a visit at conceptart.org could be.
I wanted to try a different technique in Painter, not looking that much different as my other work - i know, so i just painted a quick portrait of an austrian politician. One of the few i can sympathize with. I also posted some more pages from my sketchbook.

Yeah, very well deserved 5*s. I esp love the pencil of the creature with the birds on its head, very well done. Also those sketches of the buildings in the first post were very precise.

Thank you all very much for the nice comments! I'm on the run so i'm making it short and just drop off some of my latest sketchbook pages. Studies, sketches, lecture notes, lifedrawings, ...
I'm going to a digitalartforum convention in germany this weekend, so expect some new stuff next week.

Your pencil and painting techniques are outstanding and your creature designs are truly original and drawn and constructed to a standard I aspire to.
Keep the art coming.

thanks for stopping by. You have a really admirable sb; wonderful line, great color and imagination...all in all really enjoying it. Really not a lot of crit I can give you.
There was a bit of confusion about what you meant in part of your comment, so if you get a chance to stop by again and clarify that would be great. =)
