Pardon my not so good English, what's the "Flair" as in "Asian Urban Flair" means? Is it means our works have to exhibit the charm of an East Asian city?

I think by "flair" they mean using architecture/items/objects that give an Asian feel. So in other words, make an urban scene that is recognizably Chinese/Japanese/Korean.

    I think.

hey Chaos, maybe we could change the topic to "Asian Urban Ambience" then? I think that would be more clear.

gmblfdz actually summed it up correctly.

    essence?
    "a feeling of"
    influence?
or we could just say "urbanAsian" and leave it at that
    HongKong Luna anyone?

Could it be in South East Asian? I think I'm gonna use my own country's inspiration.. THAILAND

I used Hong Kong as reference. Advertising boards are taken from photos found on internet (cityscapes from Japan and Hong Kong), I really dont' know what's written on them...

I think I need some practice in composition (and many other subjects...).

revenebo : Good work, I see your work is very neat. Just in my opinion,I think perspective is too high eye-levels,so it divide a picture in a half. That make it hard to put any interesting point in it, but may be, you have a little gimmick in your head for this already .

Relic ooops. I fear I placed some of the boards while the image was mirrored...

OTTA Gimmick? Ehm... Like a naked woman silhouette behind a window? To divert attention from the rest of the image...
Ok, I have no idea. I should take more care of composition before starting to paint... Here my intention was to divide the street from the skyscrapers in the background, with no real focus except for the temple at the end of the street. I chose a higher point of view to give a panoramic view on the street (from an elevated position like a metro station, a highway, etc.).

revenebo: nice start! What I noticed is that the scyscrapers in the back should be darker since it's an overcast situation and usually things are darker than the sky value. Of course that doesn't apply to light scources or directly sunlit areas.
Darkening down the buildings (at least gradient-like from the top) would nicely pop them against the sky.

    Vulgar: great reference!

I am gonna cook something up soon, haven't found time yet... (damn, deadline is close!)
Won't necessarily go for cliched modern neon city though...
(remember, this can be urban in any period of time - think: 'pagodas' etc.)

I'm having trouble with this one! Not used to doing straight lines of buildings and such.

Do the rules forbid posting work that was done a month before the topic was posted? I made a cool Japanese scene...I've never participated before.

    nightime kitty worship

i thought it would be cute to stick in some worshiping of hello kitty...so cute!

i wont get to do this....but took on the subject...i have always had problems pushing my distance and perspective when i haven't done environments for a bit.

the top one is a little girl up close to a hello kitty restaurant, the second is from the downtown streets and the bottom is from a highrise apartment in the city where a kitty airship is flying by

Really digging this right now, however, as someone mentioned your characters are backwards on the middle left sign, hope you consider righting them as its really distracting.

    Pheeew!
Finished! Done! I´m through with it....!!

Well, what to say.... i´m not really satisfied with the composition, but due to multiple painted-on-wrong-layer issues it became nearly impossible to do major changes, like moving the island somewhere else, etc. etc. ...
Also, the hills could have been done better i think.
    Next time...... need sleep....
