    My Multimedia Demo reel

This was something we had to make in our after effects to show all our best works over the 3 years.

Good start, i love the music, some of the works are awesome, the one thing i didn't enjoy was the start when it was flashing, constantly fading in and out. I am assuming that is something you needed to include to cover marks yeah... Great start though.

Also not a fan of the start constant cross-fades to black. Keep in mind that your demo reel is supposed to showcase your BEST work and that you are judged not on your strenghts but on your weaknesses.
I liked the bulb / lightning part a lot.

Thanks to the both of you for your advice

From what my teacher told us our demo reels were suppose to show our best stuff from the beginning and at the end but it would seem it wasn't up to pair in some cases.

back to the drawing board . . .

    For a demo reel...

You really need your best stuff at the beginning because you need to capture the employer's attention enough to make them want to watch more than 15-30 seconds. The end should be really strong because that is what you leave them with, but you cant have crap filler in the middle. A good demo reel needs strong work through and through.

Remember that it takes approx 1 sec. to read each word on screen, so give enough time for Demo Reel and your name.

I would also recommend starting and ending the reel with the same still image so you can seamlessly loop them on your dvd.

I think this is going to be a bad crit, which I personally like to get because that means that there will be a lot I can do to keep improving the piece.

My first reaction with the fade/strobe and the kind of obnoxious music was that I wanted to turn it off. I think the camera movement for the scrapbook section was disjointed and distracting and I didn't really pay any attention to what you were showing me.

I thought your best work was the group of robots at the end.

I would cut the scrapbook opening completely, and tone down the music a bit. I would also recommend talking to other people and getting their opinion as to what your best work is. Ask a lot of them and if the tend to agree on particular pieces (even if you don't think you agree) use them.

Hope some of that helps and hope it wasn't too harsh.
