Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
Hey people, me and Lingmerth decided to create a thread challenging ourselves, pushing comfortzones and helping eachother improve!
I encourage other people to do the same, since it's - hopefully - fun! ... and to join ours aswell
Basically one of uss decides on a topic - and then both of uss have to make a piece of art related to the topic before one week. Small challenges can, and will be added during this.
For now we keep each new topic withing this thread, until we feel a new thread each week is a better option - scroll down for the current topic!
I proudly start this thread with a topic chosen by Lingmerth: The Dragon's Lair
-Focus more on the concept of the lair itself, than the dragon ( environmental )
this does not mean that there shouldn't be a dragon, focus is on the lair though - and not on the dragon.
Lingmerth I challenge you to.. either, in your piece, or in a new piece related to the topic - have three light sources, two of which are in the picture, and one third that is outside the piece.
Good luck bro - oh and.. please challenge me
Deadline will be tuesday the 14th of October, and the right to be delayed reserved.

Excellent! I accept your challenge. I'll have to give it some thought and I'll see if I can't find a nice one for you as well.
Well how about this: In your picture I want you to have the dragon breathing fire.
Hopefully it'll create some cool lighting situation. The dragon itself still doesn't need to be the main theme of the picture though.
It sound fun.I'll looking forward to see yours
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH,BUT IT'LL BE BETTER!
Alright here it is. I've had a lot to do with school these two weeks so there hasn't been much time over to draw.
Anyway, this is the best I could come up with. I can't wait too see yours DV.
Me sleep now.
holy s.... that's awesome! the piece is great - there isn't anything to crit, except it could be rendered better.. and rendering doesn't matter, you'll get better at it with each piece you make - I do
I also liked that you added some explorations, great to see how you build a piece. Thought I'd add some wip's of mine aswell.. these are actually just single layers. I didn't think of saving wip's for this one so..
ah well, good job dude - Here's mine.
Allright, that concludes our first challenge ... and Now off to Challenge 2
this was great fun! and I have the honor to present the next topic chosen by me - Underwater City
-Enviro.. Lingmerth suggested some sort of perspective training. So I've decided to incorporate perspective in this challenge
You are to depict an underwater city, it may be ruins, sci-fi civilsation.. anything that shows that there is/has been a city there, under water - and furthermore, use a point-perspective, be it one-point, two-point or three-point etc.
Deadline is tuesday next week, 21st of October.
Here's a link to great perspective fundamentals: Perspective 101
Anyone may join this - It's all about having fun and growing as an artist.
I don't know if it's wiser to make a new thread each week, or keep this one going. If more people decide to join in (I hope you do) - It might be easier with a seperate each time. For now though we stick to this one.

I realy like the idea, probly not gonna get the time, but I'll try. (I REALY need the practice)
I'll see if I get some time over from my schedule, because this is a great idea by you guys.
Yes please do.. unfortunately I don't have a piece for today, but neither does DefiledVisions, so we talked about extending the deadline until tomorrow
Hey people.. great to see the interest here
Herslow that's looking great, nevermind the perspective, just a bit extra spice for those who want.
Lord M you're very much welcome to join in.
Lingmerth waiting for your piece
Here's my underwater ruins.. tried a 2 point perspective.. I think it went better in the beginning untill I got stuck around step 5. I'm still nog good with values, though that doesn't matter since it was tons of fun!
I had a short talk with Lingmerth, and we've decided on to keep this thread as it is, which means, no new threads for each topics. Oh and I'll be making a thread to put everyone's work in, if it's cool with you guys

Herslow - Very nice, it really has a "mystic" feeling to it. I'm especially impressed with the colors and the depth of the picture.
DefiledVisions - Awesome pic, as always, Nice work with the colors too. It certainly ended up being very different from your original line drawing, witch I think is a bit of a shame. It's a little hard to tell what's what and there's too many line directions, they are kinda going in every which way, try using the pointing shapes to lead the viewer to where you want them. Finally, your focal point ended up at the very left edge of the picture, It would have been better to have to the right (because we tend to read pictures from left to right).
Here's mine and some initial thumbnail sketches, enjoy.
I also made a walpaper out of it (1280x1024): See it here

Challenge number 3:
We have decided that the next topic will be - Clouds -That's right, those puffy looking things in the sky.
In this challenge we urge you not to rely on custom brushes and to work with a reference.
Other than that there are no set parameters, your picture can be set in any weather at any time of the day, good luck.
Deadline is Tuesday next week, 28th of October.
If you're looking for good cloud pictures on the Internet I can recommend Flickr
Also, you're welcome to do any of the previous challenges at any time if you feel motivated.
And again, Anyone may join this - It's all about having fun and growing as an artist.
Thank you Lingmerth, I kinda ot stuck up in creative chaos (lol?).. I mean. I thought I knew what I was doing but truth is I didn't.
Great piece, what I find most striking is the atmosphere - the subtle lighting and all the fish realy contributes! and the use of 2point perspective is great.
Over to the new topic, great idea. I've never really painted clouds so it'll be great fun.
Can I add a suggestion? I was thinking of how we tend to see shapes in clouds. It would be fun to see what you guys come up with. Maybe you see a big crocodile in that specific cloudformation.
As lingmerth said, it's about the clouds, so keep it very subtle - Hint that the shape is something other than a cloud, but don't make it so obvious that it looks like a floating white crocodile in the sky.

Ofcourse you may put it in your sketchbook. It's your piece, you may do what ever you want with it
Great piece S.C.P! I like the use of colours and the mood they portray. I would very much like to see the reference, if any was used. And.. am I crazy if I see boobs to the left? haha
Cool. This looks to be a fun thread. I'll have to catch the next topic though. I may try for this one, but I'm behind on a couple other projects right now.
Hey I had said I would post something for the second topic, UnderWater City, but got busy and missed the deadline. I thought I would post anyway, even if late. Just went for trying to create something out of a chaotic speedpaint, finally tightened it up a bit. Not really any linear perspective here, but I think the atmospheric perspective isn't too bad.
Comments welcome, will do clouds if time permits.
S.C.P - Cool colors, Yeah I'd like to see that working sketch, I think I see about three figures.
artiphats - Also very sweet colors, good framing, a nice mesh of different styles and you make them work well together. Those highlight's looks cool and works from a graphical perspective, but if you where to go for a more realistic look I would tone them down.
So finally here is my contribution.
It's done with standard photoshop square brush.
There are some "figures" in there, see if you can figure out where they are (pun intended ).
Soo, well give DefiledVision a little more time, then well put up the next topic.
funny enough I've been taking some cool cloud photos lately, here is a painting based on one of those photos. Roughly an hour of work, didn't want to spend too much time on this one today, but might refine it more later. Good practice at any rate
Alright since you asked me to, I'll present the next topic. This one might sting a little for some.
Challenge number 4
The topic is Hovercraft, and not those puny ones that rides on air cushions, what I mean is flying cars basically.
"Deadline" will be Tuesday next week, 4th of November
As long as it's a hovering vehicle anything goes, what I had in mind foremost is probably some race-car sort of thing.
There is no particular need to place it in an environment, a tight line drawing is completely fine, rather than spending your time on the finished rendering, focus on coming up with a cool design. I thought this would be a good opportunity to work with some advanced perspective, without having to deal with those not-too-easy-to-draw ellipses.
There is no need to narrow down your final choice to only one, feel free to post how many variations and designs as you want, the more the merrier. But pick at least one and spend a little time on it.
So look at automotive design and various other sources to get inspired.
I hope I didn't come out sounding too demanding just enjoy making something and remember, if somethings hard to do you need to do it more.
Hopefully I'll post some good tutorials on curves in perspective and so on... If I can find any that is.
What would be ideal would be to buy some of Scott Robertsons DVDs. It's tricky stuff.
Feel free to get back at me on the next topic DV
Anyone may join in, and feel free to do any of the previous challenges and so on
