i must say, this is very well executed. bears a very strong (almost identical) feel to Hyung Tae Kim's stuff which i am willing to bet is what you were going for. while the image itself isnt terribly exciting, the effects are well done. The scarf and the bubbles are believeable. The clouds could probably use further development. I'd encourage you to develope a flavor that stands out as your own. There will be many "omg"s from people here at this piece, but there will also be a (possibly unspoken) group that is very neutral about this piece due to the fact that it doesnt stand out as 'your own' style. you have talent. hone your own style and you will be amazing.

btw, i DO like the pic. just trying to provide that 'helpful' feedback.

edit: after looking at kim's stuff again a bit closer, i'd say this one piece adhere's to 'normal' proportions a bit closer than almost all of kim's stuff.

Looking for other Denver area artists!

why arial? you prefer a knockoff font? i like the idea though, characters based on fonts, I'd like to see your take on something different like trajan, swiss, poplar (big fat dude) heh.

    nice work.

Im honestly not seeing or catching the tangent relation of this character to the font style Ariel but besides that I like the composition and soft cream colors.

    Siamese Goldfish:
Thank you very much for your comment and I couldn't agree with you more. After my latest piece (not this one but a later one) I decided that it was time I strayed away from his style and find my own but I really have no idea how.

    skvv:
I never saw Arial to be a knockoff of anything. It's one of my favorite fonts, that's why.

    Robert.B:
I look at Arial as a clean, sleek font so I gave her a clean, sleek design, at least that's how I see it.

    Thanks for the comments

You have nice rendering skills, that is no lie. The style might be redundant, but I believe if you use your technical skills and try to think outside of the box, by which I mean, REALLY push yourself concept wise, you can actually take what you already have to another level. Seriously, you have something there.

Now, I'm not saying your ideas suck, really I'm not. Being someone who's favorite fonts are Helvetica and Futura, I can appreciate the idea BEHIND that picture of "Arial". But if I were to look at it, I would never guess it was about a font...AT ALL. Maybe if you utilized Arial in one way or another, in her clothes, like make her clothes entirely out of text, that would be VERY interesting and experimental.

When it came to my art, I went my own way and did not follow the trends.-Frank Frazetta

Though I agree with about the Tae Kim issue, i think you will eventually find your own voice on your work. Your stuff is great! Keep doing it.

    Towarlock: Thanks!!

vanbythevaseline: Thank you. I've been trying to push myself with each new piece trying to find out what more I could do and I totally see what you're saying. I'll definitely try to keep this in mind.

The bit about Arial... I never thought about it that way. I was thinking in terms of... adjectives... nice.

RicardoGuimaraes: Yeah... I'm moving from that phase (which'll explain the portrait). I'm branching! ^_^ Or trying to anyway...
    Thanks!!

What is going on with her boobs? They make no sense, boobs ( as much as you would like ) do not defy gravity, they're like someone has tied strings round her nipples and held them up. It just, does not make sense whatsoever.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I apologize for any flaws in her breasts. I've not taken any life drawing courses so I don't have a solid understanding of how they're placed under various circumstances. I'll keep practicing.

The nipples are pointing up, most of the time they point down, actually there is a link I seen before, it was more to use help for women because breast sizes aren't as crazy as porn stars make out, but its a good pointer for you.
    http://www.007b.com/breast_gallery.php

As you can see, smaller = perkier, a chest size like your character wouldn't be so perky, even with implants.

I've never taken any life drawing classes, it doesn't mean you can't sit down and look images up and sketch them. It'll help you in the long run. G'luck.

Thanks again for your input. I can definitely say, it is because of your said method of sketching images that I see (or simply referencing) that I am at this level of skill. I'm just stating that if I would have taken a life drawing course, I probably would have noticed this small detail A LOT sooner. Since I draw women clothed, the references are clothed so there's a lot of guessing going underneath. Please excuse this; we're all learning.
