    Chris Noeth- Thanks!

    RedSquirrel- Thanks!

AztcFireFlower- Unless it's a job I tend to just wing it.. blocking it in with big brushes and then moving and tweaking things in the composition as I go. Probably not the best way to work, but it keeps things entertaining anyway If it's for a client then I definitely start with thumbs and do a sketch before painting though.

Josef K- I haven't forgotten about the minotaur piece but it's on the backburner for a couple of days.

Jason Snair- Thanks! Umm.. shoot! I must have deleted the brushes. I can't seem to find the files on my machine either. Does anyone happen to have them? If so, please PM me and I'll put them back up and link them properly. Sorry about that!

    Delmar - Thanks!

trevor- my main update is the one that's under NDA unfortunately. *sniff* but here's a nonsensical sketch while taking a small break tonight.

crappy update, sorry folks, this is more to just make sure I keep posting in here more regularly.

    Studdyyyyin

Okay.. Dallas was a big kick in the ass for me in terms of realizing just how far I have to go yet, so I've been putting in some study time each night after work. Starting by going back to the anatomy basics... studies based off of Kevin Chen, Ron Lemen, Bridgman and Loomis. Just worrying about drawing mostly right now, rather than painting/values.

And just for kicks, a study off of a random photo I found on flickr, after watching that Zhang Lu youtube (or whatever the chinese version is) vid.

Next up I think I'm going to try and tackle some material studies and still lifes.. work on surfacing and all that.

The helmet in the last concept looks too small, making it look as if the forehead has been compacted together with the rest of the cranium. Apart from that it works very well.

If I'm taking anything with me from your sketch book it's your anatomy studies. I spent more time looking at them than anything else and I'm awed.

    Thanks everyone.

Omerta- yeah, a lot of things used to bug me about the loomis books but I've really been appreciating them more and more since delving into them a bit more. Bridgman is always awesome though!

Joorin- whoops, you're totally right. His head fit at one point, but then I scaled it up because it was looking too tiny. Forgot to do the same to the helmet. Thanks for the catch.

Stuck at home sick today, did a couple of studies out of boredom. Mostly trying to focus on value and color. Then I combined the two, because everyone loves pants.

    Ok.. back to sleep.

Your studies are the most fantastic thing ever. What dedication to copy all that so accurately and cleanly. Overwhelming! Where can I find find those Kevin Chen and Ron Lemen tutorials?

HumbleEgo- Thanks! I'll be stopping by your sketchbook regularly.

    hp- pants

Leonor- The Kevin Chen stuff is partly from what I found scouring the internet (I think some of it came from here, actually) and partly from handouts from a figure drawing class I took with him while i was in LA. The Ron Lemen stuff came from a few ImagineFX issues where he had anatomy workshops in the back. I can't recall the issue #'s off the top of my head, but I think you can search the IFX site pretty easily to find out.

D@niel- Lazy? Yeah right! Your sketchbook is one of the ones that's been kicking me in the ass to get more done

    Ghostbrush- Thanks man!

So after checking out D@niel's latest stuff, I wanted to give the recording process a go. Unfortunately there's only half of the video, because I got up to take a quick break and forgot to hit resume... blagh . Won't make that mistake again. Definitely want to do more of this.. it's strange to watch yourself work but probably a good way to learn where you're wasting time and what to keep working on.

Excellent speed. I also like the video because it shows some of your process, like the creation of that edge-rail for the left-hand bridge.

The one thing I was really wondering about that isn't in this video is about the markings on the egg-dome: You have a neat marking that looks like it is sunk into the dome, how did you manage to get it lit in the way you did? At first, looking at the final image, I thought you had taken a round brush and done a Linear Dodge stroke on top of it all to get the geometry and everything, but looking at the video, you made the dome's geometry happen a lot earlier...
