Sprite Animation Weekly #11 - Big Boss

Now that you're big and strong, it's time for another Monday.

    Week 11 - Big Boss
The challenge this week is to make some form of boss character in an idle animation. A boss doesn't have to be large, but a boss should always feel large. Use your skills to make the boss feel daunting with a minimal amount of animation. Think about various moving parts, although you're free to make the boss as non-intimidating as you want... or take it in any direction you see fit. No size limit, looping recommended.

    Have fun.

    Other Notes
Going to keep the same icons for a few weeks at a time, just so things feel more cohesive.

Also, I decided to make you clowns a video this morning, may or may not be helpful. This is for the people who haven't tried a sprite before.

if I get some idea, maybe I do it. I don't wish to make a difficult one, last week I spent hours on both little anim, 2 whole evening of mine... but I never did an idle anim character and I rarely make other figures than simple slim young people, so it would be useful and fun I may keep it simple

Hunterkiller: lol! maybe not an obvious Big Boss, but I like it. well, you need a normal black outline without fuzzyness.

I tried to sketch a big boss yesterday (I usually draw gestures and mainly girls), but it's not so easy for me... but I have much time left

cool video, sinix. very good for everyone who is just starting out just like me.
see if I can do one myself.
cool design hunterkiller. and the movement of his ribcage is really nice.

*edit - and even with running the risk of outing myself as a total beginner:.. I have problems saving my sprite as .gif in PS CS3. it just doesn't move... can someone please help me out?

nice one, hunterkiller, I could picture that in castlevania or something.

If you want a quick way to get rid of the white edge, just open the gif back up, go through each frame and fill the transparency with white, then use the magic erase tool and set the tolerance to around "100" or so. Clicking the white area then should get rid of all the near-white pixels around the edges.

I don't know about CS3, but I remember using imageready for the first time and not realizing you had to use the "save optimized" option and not the regular "save".

I'm guessing there is something similar in CS3 for outputting the actual gif animation and not just a single image gif. So, look around the screen for something about "save optimized" or outputting/exporting animation as gif or something like that. It won't be the same as just saving the file regularly in gif format.

    ah thanks sinix!
couldn't find it in cs3 and nothing similar. but I still have an older version of imageready and it worked.
yay first sprite. don't like anymore after I spent several hours on it. blargh. not as big and bossy as I wanted him to look.
but I will do another one for this week.
