Magic cards, book covers, and gallery work *pg. 2 update, nudity*
Stuff has been accumulating here since the last update, so here goes:
this first batch is for the new Magic set Shards of Alara. All oils on board, though the rhino men had some digital tweaks done to it. These are all 11x15 except Cancel (the hand crushing a spell) which I think was something like 6x8
These are two recent book covers, the first for Night Shade Books and measuring 16x24, the second for Pyr and measuring 14x21. Both oils on board
These are for my gallery. The first one, "Pink Man Blue Bird", was for a group show but it's the start of a series which I'll be working up between now and February. 18x20, oil on board. The last two are part of a different series I'm starting. Both oils on board, the wide one is 8x13, the tall one is 6x14

Very nice, as usual, however I think you could benefit from some softer brush play especially in areas such as hair and facial features. This critique is mostly directed towards your first gallery piece of the man folding his arms. Just my thoughts. I love the variety and the last two pieces are very nice, and look great in contrast to the commercial work.

Dave your experience with oil is really evident...the craftmanship of your work definitely shows.
...keep at what your doing...

...the last one appeals to me most... nice composition, it's balanced colour wise, and the subject leaves its interpretation open ended.

Serul Swiftblade. Awesome.
I love the one for Night Shade Books, too. Polar bear.

I've seen most of these before, so you know how I feel about them...
but I've never seen the pink one of the girl.
I love it!

They all look incredible! Especially the covers and the one with the polar bear. The one with Boris, that's gotta be the biggest hand I've seen in a long time, heh.

Hiya, Dave. Great work all around. Love the book covers especially, and particularly, the dragon with the pink bow. I laughed out loud.

I've been an admirer of your work for a while, your illustrations and sketchbook especially, but after just now checking out your blog "My Pal Walter" I nearly collapsed from the amount of cuteness that assailed me. I have a Russian Tortoise named Winston, and although he will never get bigger than a tea plate, I still imagine he and I going on adventures together like you and Walter. Awesome.
Keep up the good work.

Oh man these are fantastic! I love the one with Boris throwin' color magic! Appropriate for him and beautifully executed Dave... Oh and the top image is tops! I love her pose and especially her costume. Did you have specific ref for her clothing or was it frankenstiened?
Fantastic work Dave!
