    JeanShade's Sketchbook

    Hello all,

Decided to get back into the swing of things. Here are some skeletal studies and gestures I've been doing in the past few months.

Skeletal studies took about an hour or two and it guilts me greatly that they are incomplete. Well, better luck next time.

    Gestures are 5-10 minutes.

    Criticisms are most welcome.

    Really nice sketches Jean.

The skeletal studies are attractive in their unfinished stage.
Your gesture sketches are lively. I like the simple forms, that convey alot. No clutter of lines, especially in the first gesture. Very nice.

Thanks for your visit. My sketchbook is collecting dust these days, but,
I think, the time to feed new stuff is coming up soon.

These posts show an awful amount of talent and future potential. Do you have anymore to post? Would love to see more stuff.

    Back.

    Sorry for the haitus!

Been sidetracked by life these months. Hopefully I can get back to being more productive.

Some life model drawings, quick sketches when I'm out and sketches from
    imagination.

Radon :Thank you. I'm sure you can do just as well if not better, keep looking and drawing.

Peetaer : Thanks! Well heres somemore, I don't know about potential, the work of the folks about here are phenomenal, I hoe you're right

AztcFireFlower : Thank you, I'm glad you like them. I need to work harder on them though. Theres always something to fix isn't there?

The skeletons are wonderful! I agree, I kind of like them in their unfinished state.

And because I am being nitpicky: work on those hands! I see that in your life studies you draw them, but in your (I'm assuming) personal sketches, you sort of cut the arms off at the wrists.
Try to force yourself to draw hands; there is always a mirror and your own hand to reference. And I can say this because I hate drawing hands as well, though not as much as I hate feet...

    Thanks for that Kim.

Glad you like the skeletons, but I'm convinced I need to make more of an effort in finishing my pieces.

I'm really poor in the drawing from imagination bit, so I've been hoping to put more work into that department. I'll keep that in mind and put the hands in

Been working on one for a few minutes between coffee breaks yesterday and I kept going..."hands..hands..."

I think I might have to start drawing feet soon...oh the horror.

Hey matey!!!!! Havent seen you in agessssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!
Life drawing is looking good. Its good to see you try something looser than what you normally do. You could try some pens for the bus stuff, it is more decisive than the charcoal sticks in these cases methinks.
You know, my favourite drawings from you are the crazy monsters you use to draw. Theyre quite imaginitive but I would love to see how those are going these days
    Take care dude!

Pretty cool ! I like the hands, your fluidity in the lines are really an evocative to the forms. What did you used for the skeleton study? is it chalk? really like them too, well, keep it up, see you!

More studies and some mindless doodling.

Ledd: Thank you! That's compressed charcoal I used for the skeleton study. Hope to do some this week, haven't done bones in awhile.

Mydrako: Yo! *fistbump* I'll try my drandest to keep it up! Thank you for the encouragement.

Ajvenema: Thanks! I'll do more studies first I think but hopefully I'll have something finished to show soon.

Bendragon: Woot. Stay tuned for more creepy crawlies! Just for ya mate.

Kidda: Glad you liked them, Yea gotta do more skeletal studies soon so stay tuned.

Wicked hand studies and portraits dude! What? You think you have no potential? Yeah sure, there are wicked awesome artists on here. How do you think they got to where they got? They just work their ass of all the time. It's about persistence! Never quit! Never surrender!

Reminds of a quote (that I'll paraphrase): "Now is the time to make a repository of all the things you love and then do it with all your heart because who knows how long it will last."

Just keep at it buddy. YOU'VE GOT POTENTIAL!!!

You've got great potential. Think about it, you're already better than half the people here.

You have a lot of confidence in your linework. Nice sketchbook dude, keep working.

But I don't need to tell you that...

You have some wonderful gestures in here. I especially like the last three images. Great perspective work, and poses.
Some of the proportions seem slightly off, especially heads seem a bit big on a few.

    Nice work,
    Greg

    WOW! You've been busy. Good.

Love the hand and head sketches. You've really captured a sense of roundedness with your hand drawings. They feel so alive!

Awesome anatomy work on those last few! Like Marshall mentioned above, nice gestures!

Cool! My last post in here was a while ago, but I see you've been working hard! Studies are looking good. I think I saw a Jack Sparrow at one point, or if it wasn't him it looked awfully like him--his cousin maybe?
Not much to crit this time-I say just keep going at it!
