great work ! you are way ahead of the ball game, keep it coming.
try to delve in to color super quickly and get comfortable with trying to place value and color at the same time

the sooner the better (great work on the last post that is def in the right direction)

i'd love to see some more landscape/enviro work as well

    keep up the fantastic work.
looking forward to many more posts !

dwardo-thaaanks man. fixed the girl's weird shirt on the b/w couple, but I'll have to upload it from my laptop.

the lin ran thing too... saw that somewhere before. badass!

gabs- creepers unite BD thanks so much!

Wu!- yeah I only tend to flaunt age on this site because I'm a like that.

pfff my proportions are right on [which means I'm using a reference]
or a mile off [which means I'm... not]

    questing for that in between!

abhorsen950- BDDD yeaaah man. You'll be legendary in no time--keep at it!

Zorcron- thanks, man! I think you're right--I've found it hard to stay too long in black and white because the color looks really pasted on. I need to work on getting my colors/values down.

;___; actually I'd love to try some enviros

    ~~

these first few are just some more commission/requests of other characters. anatomy's a little funky with some of them :/

    Finally, an update!

    Funny moon-wolf!

Considering the christmas card, two words: composition and layout. It's stuff you'll have to look into at some point (but don't overload yourself right now).

The BW study is nice, though stay away from pure black. It might be a good idea to stick to grayscale for a while and learn about light and form that way. Use pencil for anatomy studies and grayscale for light studies. Do paintings that focus on color and nothing else. Basically, try to tackle one field at a time, not all at once in a single work. (I don't claim this is the universal way to go, but a focused approach might be beneficial to you.)

My sketchbook contains cartoon studies and Pokémon.

    hey bro
watch out your proportions i guess
i like the looseness in your drawings but i think that your lines should have more intent
i should that you could strive for a loose but accurate line in your drawings

Jasper Flick- that moon-wolf is just within the realm of not-quite-innocent. just what you like /squiiint

composition would be something nice to dabble with soon.

    okay. I should be getting into a little more photoref pencils and posemaniacs I think for anatomy because my proportions are just plain fucked up right now @____@;;

I'm also not sure what mastery of color is... it's fun to experiment I guess, but I'm not really sure whether I'm going in the right direction or not.

xinranliu- proportions = ... yeah no words can describe my proportions anymore.
I wish I knew what to do with my lines. I feel like I know where to start, but the line don't know where to stop, so it just wanders uselessly B\;;; I think this could be solved by a little more observation/contour and just looking at more sbs... thanks for dropping by man.

    ~~

I feel like all my stuff looks the same... I'm kind of afraid to experiment and when I do it all kind of peters out into something horrible or just looks like something I've done too many times before.

I think I need to screw up some more.

The face at the bottome looks really good, you also improved at values, you should really try to visyalize your light source, and don't forget the cast shadows, sometimes, there are cast shadows from heads, or arms, that's really help to situate the light source ! Keep it up and keep sketching a lot, c u later

MMM, FRESH JAYTEA SKETCHES! there's some wicked stuff in here (a personal favourite is the girl standing on geometric shapes looking up at the camera all, "OOOHH I GOT MAGIC HANDS!") That's a beautiful pose and the composition's nice. and the figure within the trees is WOW. I really like that! really really! that could be wicked. you get to play with some nice dapple lighting and OOOOHH..

NEVER be afraid to experiment! never worry that something's the same, or that you're getting repetitive, or anything like this... just bulldoze ahead! sometimes it helps not to think, to cut out all YO JIBBERJABBA UP IN YO HEAD and just scribble.

no matter the result. no matter if your lines are defined or if the proportions are off or any of this stuff. no matter if it doesn't even make a goddamn shape and people accuse you of ripping of jackson pollock. FREE YOURSELF!

plus, nothing's ever the same. you could be drawing a mug and thinking, "awww nahh the whole world's drawn a mug why am I doing this! I should be experimenting!" (I know I do). that mug is as exciting as hell. the whole world is exciting as hell. no one sees anything the way you do (you might think this is some sunday school rubbish but it's true)

you look at that mug and you think, "MAN THIS MUG IS SO GREAT I AM GOING TO DRAW THIS MUG SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD" and you DO IT. and then you've done that fantastic mug some real artistic justice and then, well, you can do ANYTHING

and never let anyone say otherwise, especially not you!

(oh man I seriously feel like I should have had some gospel singers while typing that. CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH?)

What an overwhelming lesson to all artists! Be not afraid of absurdity; do not shrink from the fantastic. Within a dilemma, choose the most unheard-of, the most dangerous, solution. Be brave, be brave! - Isak Dinesen

How much control the commissioner has over your work is a matter of agreement. You should specify this before a deal is made. Strive to retain ownership and as much control over your own work as possible.

    Keep up the studies!

My sketchbook contains cartoon studies and Pokémon.

    IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG

commissions? what is this! excellente, congratulations. I smeel improvement wafting up my nose like fresh bread (mmmm) some edges work would be cool, to give your pieces more definition (where the edges should be soft, or hard, depending on what they're made of and lighting)

KEEP IT UPPP and I will give you much better comments soon. promise!

    Anticipating your personal project.
I'd like to jump the gun and ask what it's all about, but just like Blackspots animations.
I'll wait till it's finished before asking a billion questions. ^^

Keep searching and expressing that souuuul mate.

Hey there, your work is great! You're 15, and i'm 15 in about a month or so... so basically the same age!

I've had a look at your sketchbook, and you've improved immensley over time! My best advice would be to tell you what everyone usually tells me...

Draw from life! The more you do it, the better you'll get!

Wu!- I've been procrastinating on improvement orz; I swear if I posted more often I would improve faster... thanks man ((:

gutss- WHERE ART THOU BEEN O BROTHER.

    commissionssss n___n!
I shall work on edges. ONWARD.

dwardo- about the personal project-- it's actually a written novel, and I was designing a cover for it. I might design some of the characters, settings, and scenes for it though, you've given me an idea now haha.

    got a lot more souuuul on the way now that I've finished the last of my big recent jobs BDDD;

Selina-Mei- hey that's cool! it's gr8 seeing kids on this site... everyone's pretty much friends without having to meet each other hahaha. that life-drawing stuff is some fantastic advice and I'm happy to say that I have been creeping on people quite recently and am proud to be getting rather good at it [not the drawing part, no, the creeping thing B]]. window reflections are genius!

    ~~

    augh I gave in!
I have pre-ordered the art of uncharted 2: among thieves at barnes and noble and after using a gift card only ended up paying about $20. orz so glad since ballistic is so damn expensive.

gonna post another batch soon bc I don't trust the attachment manager. it'll prolly kill all the files I've already uploaded if I try one more. x___x; dear god all the stuff on this page is so oldddd.

ummm yeah! I have caught small-nose-syndrome... I need to do more face studyinggg.
