I loves Twitter. I've said this elsewhere but, it's about letting casual friends into the small everyday rhythms of your life.
Pre Twitter MondayAM office conversation:
Post Twitter its more like, "Hey, how did X go?" Followed by talking about X,Y, and possibly Z.
And it seems to be doing great job of weaving friends from different aspects of my life together.

I have a Twitter account, but I don't use it all too frequently. I set it up mainly because I just find it a good place to vent / leave notes for myself / type junk when I'm bored. It's right here. Come to think of it, there isn't an art-related post on the thing. Probably because whenever art pops into my mind, I just draw instead.
There is one thing I find pretty cool to check on occasion: Twistori. Click on the words on the left and it displays relevant entries recently posted on Twitter. You don't see a whole lot of what random people have just done, but what people are thinking, which I find a heck of a lot more fascinating for some reason.

Yeah just came here to make a thread, glad I did a search.
I can understand the hate but if you find the right people to follow it can be really great, like a sort of more human version of an RSS feed.
As for posting things yourself, if you can get into the rythm of posting relevant and interesting things relating to yourself, it can be a really great tool for yourself as sort of a PR system for getting people interested in what you're doing. I need to fight the urge myself not to post about picking my nose or w/e, but I think it'll be good for the long run.
Anyway, feel free to follow: http://www.twitter.com/nimbusnacho

It's about things like "Hi Sam, Sorry about your tooth", to "Let's meet, here at this time", "Where the F are you", "Oh, no you have the wrong block", To "Dan Dos Santos is nominated for his first Hugo Award"
you can read what you want and catch some very cool stuff you would never have known about... Tweet Me anytime.

Recently, Biz Stone (co-founder of Twitter), was on The Colbert Report.
While interviewing Stone, Colbert posted a "tweet":
note to self: send robot to past to invent twitter before this guy

I'm finding it quite useful for networking in a building up friendships sort of way. Now if only I could get Irene Gallo to follow me it'd be a complete success... http://twitter.com/DavidCousens

yeah i'm still "getting" twitter. It seems like a dumbed down facebook, but i hate facebook's over complex interface so twitter works for me.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
