great sense for light, body and figural 3D...you have nice observationskills!

just one request: please scale your pics down they are HUGE ^^"
and maybe you could rotate the figure sketches?
other than that i really liek you sketchbook, especially those sketches on toned paper.

    Bushido - thanks dude
Mischeviouslittleelf - thanks a lot man, yeh the jester looks like he'd be great for childrens parties
Ging - thank you very much
makArtscorner - thanks. yeah sorry about those technical difficulties

Shawn Barber was our guest judge for this year's Best of Ringling Exhibition. I'm very proud to say that all 3 of my submissions made it into the show. Shawn also did an incredible 3 hour portrait demo. It pissed off some of our teachers that Shawn had traced the image onto to board and encouraged this type of transfer, but he had a point in that a mere tracer would not understand the forms he was painting.

so here's some figure stuff. Sad to say that it was this model's last day with us, she's moving to Texas. I'm not usually one to make excuses but I had the worst stomach cramps while doing these and I feel that it compromised the quality, but oh well that's what I get for taking a stupid diet pill to try and make my weight class. Kind of a tangent but I need to lose at least 4 more lbs by April 4th because there's an arm wrestling tournament at the Tampa Renaissance Festival. Can't wait to weigh in and then eat like 10 turkey thighs...mmm real food...

Congratulations on the exhibition, the drawings and the jester are looking good, though I feel like my eye is getting pulled towards two different perspectives with the kind of fungi pathway below his feet. I like the hook curve that it gives but it almost feels like it should be leading up to his throne from the other side.

Looking really good though, there's a real sense of atmosphere to his environment.

aedman - thanks, those were some of the points brought up during the critique. my teacher also said that the rows of trees looked more like 2 big ass trees. i'll probably play around with it a little more in the future.

for our illustration class we have to have 12 sketchbook pages from imagination with a common theme due on March 30th. My focus was doing scenes from books and trying to get better at composition by making a frame within the page. Here's what I've got so far:

sorry, no matter what I try I can't seem to get this one to rotate

Woah, your figure drawings are absolutely amazing!
The rest as well, of course.

the jacket is fantastic man, you really nailed the texture. the eyes are a bit wonky, but meh, the jacket and actually the silhouette more than make up for it. top stuff.

here's my final illustration from this semester. we were given an open assignment so I chose to redesign a magic card since I would love to freelance for Wizards of the Coast some day soon. The card is called Necropotence, and basically what it does is let you exchange life fore knowledge. It's 18"x24" acrylic on canvas

long time no update. I just started my junior year here at Ringling and it's my first time living off campus so I'm quite excited. Here's a couple pages of sketches from over the summer. I feel like I've gotten MUCH looser than normal and these pages are about the tightest ones that I did this summer. Most of them are sculptures from the Met
