    "Outstanding" to "Complete"?

Ahhhhhhhhh someone answer me before I freak out. My portfolio was submitted on Monday (27th) but it still hasn't changed from "Outstanding" to "Completed" on the site.

    Is this normal? )8

Now all it says is I have an outstanding transcript, which I don't. u_u

    Also 100/400 isn't so bad compared to 100/1000! D:

    Uhh, can it not be printed in color? I'm just wondering the same thing he's wondering, because when the black and white drawings are printed in color, there's a lot more visible tone than printing in "black". ._. I mean, we're not drawing them with bright colored pencil crayons or anything. ;_;

I totally forgot about this forum.
I just finished my animation evaluation at Sheridan too.

And uh, I know it's late but when they said that personal art must not exceed XX by XX, does it mean they won't evaluate it? Cause I put in 3 personal life drawings and they very much exceed the size restriction. However, I created a seperate thin case for ALL my figure drawings, in addition to my black case. Maybe they'll forgive me? I do know that they looked at the personal drawings because I see light crease marks from when they flipped pages.

And just out of curiosity, did a lot of you submit digital paintings in your personals? I read in the Personal Art blurb that digital media will not be reviewed. I wanted to submit one of my character vector-colour concepts along with the original lineart from my sketchbook but I was all paranoid over that statement in the blurb so I scrapped that idea. Did I read too much in that statement?

Also, I was quite surprised to see that some students brought figures to display on their animation desks. There's a high level of trust, I like that. o:

@Harpey - I submitted a digital painting as one of my personal pieces. I was led to believe that the "no digital media" meant nothing that had to be viewed on a computer. Even if I was informed wrong, the personal section is only worth 8 points in total and I have 4 other pieces to help. So, I'm not worried.

@Harpey: I also submitted one digital painting (actually, digital rework of a gouache painting) in the personal art section. Like Lamp, I took "no digital media" to mean no work would be viewed digitally (they proceed to talk about discs, slides, etc).

@ Raymond, I submitted mine in color. It should be fine. I think its kinda important for them to see the shades and values so I decided to print them in color.
@ Harpey , I included 2 digital drawings but they are from life.like I put them on my pc desk and painted them in photoshop. One was my self portrait painting and the other one was fruit painting. I think as long as you draw or paint from life, its acceptable.

What site are you guys referring to? Access Sheridan? Is this only a concern to those who mailed their portfolios?

Yep, I was referring to Access Sheridan. I gave them my portfolio during one of the drop off days though, not the mail-in option. D: That's why I'm worried.

Should probably give them some time. Who knows how many portfolios they have to sort through. :0

It's just that OfficialLamp posted a couple of days ago that his portfolio's status changed. That's why I started freaking out haha. I'll give it another week. x_x

I really wish they had given us the scores when they returned the portfolios. D:

Mine was mailed in, so that could be the reason why it's updated so fast.

On the 28th, but it didn't go through as "complete" until a day or two later.

I would assume that they treat mail-ins and drop-offs differently. Updating the mail-ins right away to let the sender know it's been received. It may still be a good idea to check with the school, but don't be too concerned about it.

Do these four words pertain to the same drawings, or are they for separate ones? Observational means a drawing from life. Representational means an accurate drawing of the subject. Personal means something that shows your thought process, concepts, and individual aesthetics. Expressive could mean the way you interpret colours, light, and lines. That's what I think, anyway!

    From my understanding:

Observational - drawn from life, something in front of you. Still life, figure drawing, stuff like that. School work.

Representational - things maybe drawn from imagination, but they're clear scenes or things that are meant to represent people. Most illustrations I think would fall under this? Basically I think it means non abstract. It's a scene or a portrait that's not necessarily of a 'real' person or thing.

Expressive - Um, I know for the therapy expressive art is basically all about process and what you're feeling and playing around with your media as opposed to trying to show SOMETHING. It can look like stuff if you want, but the important thing is just the process(I don't think I have ANY of this).

Personal - Art you made for yourself -- I included some pages from an art journal and I think it would hit this one?

Also, @J. Cui - They got my transcripts for sure on the 28th or so (I got confirmation and everything) , and it still says they're outstanding. My animation portfolio updated the day it was received, but my illustration portfolio requirement isn't listed as 'outstanding' or 'completed' - instead it has completely disappeared as an option. I wouldn't be relying too hard on the accuracy of AccessSheridan.

Attended their information session today and there was stuff there that I would have LOVED to hear two months ago. x_x Such as the fact that they aren't assessing you on your ability to make photo realistic works but for expression of your own art form, and the fact that everything is judged on your compatibility with the program, not how good you are. Then they tell us how they're keen about digital art and exploration with the digital media. >..< And i'm going whaaat, you can submit digital art? @...@

But oh welll, they said first year illustration students do life drawings with a focus on the skeletal frame, so if applying again, we'd have to fill our sketchbooks with that. .0.

And I still don't get how 5 minute gesture drawings can fit into a portfolio. >...> I see how in their hallways they have year 1 "portfolios" and they're just nude gesture drawings with some charcoal/conte done on a big sheet of paper that could probably be done in 5-15 minutes. =....= just how good does a portfolio have to be @__@

THere was probably 50is-80 desks, all of them high tech (and I checked with one of the guides, there all PC)

Yes, students get their own desks to work with. I think, I might of misheard that first years have to share with one other person. but I'm not sure. When we went in and looked at the tables and stuff, there was quite alot of them. You get a computer, a tablet, a tablet with the screen built in and that thing for capturing pictures for traditional animation. It looked amazing really. high budget stuff. Funny enough, each year gets their area. 4th and 3rd were locked off to us. With lockers, desks to work on, little billboards to doodle on and the works. Prob where all animation students will be for most of their time. Then after that, basically just more hallways with more work.
Hey, first year animation student here. Just clarifying. Each year except for first years have their own studio with work spaces in them. This isn't to say we don't have a place to work, we use the animation classrooms to do our work which has plenty of animation desks, there's also some located in the hallway as well. I believe they mentioned that they do this to dissuade first years of getting into the bad habit of pulling all nighters inside the studio, but that doesn't really stop us. >

I hope everyone's portfolio day went well. It's the absolute worst waiting so long to get your marks back. Turn all that nervous energy towards pumping out a million awesome drawings. :3

Thanks owlu. Our tour that day was chaotic. We had only one animation student, so it was like 100+ people cramming into rooms and hallways trying to overhear the guide. Sometimes I couldn't catch everything.

Yeah, the wait sucks. I've got another school to apply to and my excitement for getting results back from Sheridan is totes overshadowing it. Arg.

I get to go straight from worrying about preparing a portfolio into worrying about getting scholarships. Fundies is 13k, and If I get into animation or illustration that's an extra 10k on top of it. I hope the Canadian Dollar dips a bit between now and September >.>
