Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
After seeing how much Project 365 did for my skill as a photographer (compare day 1 to day 365), I decided to give it another go, but this time with illustration. I certainly need the practice.
Prismacolor brush pen, 10 min.
4/365, 15 minutes, photoshop
After last night's little 3 hour adventure in the land of 'oh god, skintones, what bloody color are they?!', I took the advice of a friend and scrapped the color, drew some guidelines, and concentrated on simple blocky forms.
No color, and far less detail than the other portraits, yet to my eyes, it looks more accurate. Talk about crazy...
5/365, 15 minutes, photoshop, trace
Stemming from a painting a friend did from a photographic self portrait, I decided to use the same photo as the base for tonight's self portrait, which was mostly about understanding what shapes are placed where and why.
i suggest lots of skull studies before this
For color, I cheated in the beginning and took a photo of myself to see which colors were most common where. Now I wouldn't really suggest this too much, since the photo turned out to be rather grainy, but maybe build a palette like that? I have all sorts of palettes taken from photos and other stuff; buildings, dust, skin, etc.
Listen to Joce, too, do studies, a lot of these heads are the same angle; look down, to the left of the page, etc.
