The Beard- Just checked out your thread, and your COW for this week, and it some how solved so many questions and troubles I had with my own. At least, I knew a direction to take it, I'm not sure how well its selling. I hope I can finish it in time!

    AWSOME!!
the color sold me (loved that you went green instead of blue). i think defining the front flipper some more, to distinguish the depth and adding something to indicate the fact that its underwater (fish etc.). then this will be golden.

thanks for the crit on mine. i tried to define the front legs more before i posted it in the cow thread. but i don't think i did a very good job.
    did thomas start one??

spamming your own sketchbook thread? for shame!

i think the creature looks good, and as peter mentions, the green was a very striking and interesting choice. color here is looking really solid! i'm liking the golden brown through green through yellowish colors you are employing so effectively.

crits. i think the level of detail on the actual creature is good in some areas, but could be developed more in others. the front flippers in particular feel like they need some more love and structure. the texture throughout i think is really good, but yeah those seem kind of apocryphal. In general and with regards to the concept assignment, some measure of scale would go a long way towards making this baddie more convincing as an arctic giant. whether that would be the giant squids suckling at its mouth glands or little penguin flits dashing away for safety, a size reference seems to be necessary given this assignment. I like the pose and the atmosphere you have created, but definitely i'd like to see the details and anatomy of the abdomen - tail region fleshed out and conceptualized rather than illustrated. edit: one other thing that would be really great to see would be some details in the mouth region. what's going on in there? For this kind of creature i always think about the scariest looking animal ever, the alligator snapping turtle makes a great reference. some nasty ass mouth anatomy rendered in there will really punch up what you've got here.

the details on the head are really nice, i kind of get like a chameleon kind of vibe from him. Lovely piece, though, special K – and especially good on you for doing one of these! Keep on pushing to get better! Yr making some great progress!

Miggles? Thinking on your advice, I'm taking some references into it to try and spice it up, not for the cow entry, but for myself and I guess any future portfolio. I just started this weeks, and I'm hoping to take it a bit further this time. We needs your entry tooooo!!!!!

This week's first thumbnails. So far I think I like the top left and the bottom right the most.

    Oooooh, thumbnails....

I love watching a project from start to completion. Seeing how other artists organize and build their works is such a great tool. What made you go with the top right thumbnail?

Hey triple H, Cow 143 is beautiful, man. I like it's design and I see nothing about it that is weak. Cheers from a fan.

gmc9987- It's kind of funny, I just started over, and I think I've come up with something a bit better, I don't know yet. I chose that thumbnail though because I was really digging the turtle+insect look I was getting out of it though.
Mischeviouslittleelf- It does need some edges, some clarifications, but that was just a sketch/wip of it at that point.
Edward Cherniga- Thanks dude, that means a ton!

A new direction for this week's COW. I think it might be a stronger idea. Still working on it though.

    Lovin the mark making.
I'm seeing a sea creature in profile, with its mouth open(correct me if I'm wrong). Don't really feel like i can give a good crit yet.
Are you planning on adding a bkg?

That's pretty close to what I had going on. I decided to try and give the creature some context. Maybe this is just to goofy though...heh, I'm having fun with it though.
