Sarah Palin - censorship?
It seems that as a mayor in Alaska, Palin ruffled quite a few feathers.
From this article:
...Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books...
Anne Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.
The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article.
Ms. Palin also upended the town’s traditional ways with a surprise edict: No employee was to talk to the news media without her permission.

She sure gives a great speech though.
"Astronomy offers an aesthetic indulgence not duplicated in any other field. This is not an academic or hypothetical attraction and should require no apologies, for the beauty to be found in the skies has been universally appreciated for unrecorded centuries."
September 5th, 2008 #4That scares the shit out of me, and I don't live in America... aside from her being anti-contraception and wanting to push creationism into classrooms, also. :0

not anti-contraception, although she does oppose anything but abstinence-only sex education (and we can see how well that's worked out). So I guess that's one less reason to be scared of her. That still leaves about 10,000 other reasons, though.

Palin has been clear throughout her career that abortion is "absolutely unacceptable" in every context, even if the conception was due to rape or incest...
...Ms. Palin opposes the use of birth control, as well sexual health education classes for teens. She is firmly for abstinence being the only form of sexual education taught in schools.
As a candidate for governor, Sarah Palin called for teaching creationism alongside evolution in public schools. But after Alaska voters elected her, Palin, now Republican John McCain's presidential running mate, kept her campaign pledge to not push the idea in the schools....
When asked during a televised debate in 2006 about evolution and creationism, Palin said, according to the Anchorage Daily News: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."
