CA, This is how I personally feel about my art. In all it's mediocrity.
And you should too, with your own art.
Most of the times I draw stick figures.
Fuck yeah.
I'm horrible at drawing women, but still do it.
Fuck yeah.
I draw the most random stuff everyday, just because of an overreaching inferiority complex.
Fuck yeah.
I'm a lazy bastard.
Fuck yeah.
This picture I'm gonna do right now is gonna suck, but I'm gonna do it anyways, just to see how bad it's gonna look.
Fuck yeah.
I may do something REALLY good maybe once a month, but then I completely screw it up once I color it.
Fuck yeah.
I love art.
Fuck yeah.
why the constant "fuck yeah's"??? Because for me, this retardedly optimistic energy about making art really helps in washing away virtually EVERY SINGLE anxiety in making art. At least for me.
Example: Let's say for example, you made a drawing. You really did try your best. Except; it's a failure. It's bad. Very, very bad. Horrendous.
Your drawing, is now awesomely horrendous. It's so bad, it's good! Godly. Epic.
Now, with this backwards concept, bad drawings are amazing. It's all failsafe. They're the gifts of god to the lower man. I don't fear drawing Anything anymore, because I know, it's gonna be frickin' amazing. Whether it's going to be amazingly awful, amazingly mediocore, or surprisingly amazingly good, it's gonna be epic. No matter how it turns out, and no matter how many and how long you do it, it's still going to be amazing.
So what? so Now... after toiling away at epic mediocrity, through hours...days...weeks...months...years......Somethi ng Surprises you.
You've suddenly made something genuinely amazing. It looks as if it's been blessed by the Gods and Goddesses. The heavens have smiled upon you and the angels and various heavenly creatures all rejoice in your creation. You say to yourself-
HOLY FUCK. I DID THAT??
Fuck yeah.
In your exuberance and joy, you decide to make another one. This one, you decided, will be the one. It will be so amazing, so beautiful, so legendary, so epic, that God himself will bow down to you. Grown men will weep before your mastery. The universe will tremble with your greatness.
And it turned out to be the most overwhelmingly dissapointingly horrid thing to have ever graced the earth. God wept, but not in joy. Plants shriveled up and died by it's mere stench. Babies and kittens cried in its presence.
Fuck yeah.
Crackpot philosophy? Maybe.
A good read? I hope so.
Waste of time? tell me if it was.
Motivational? Tell me if it is.
Do I really believe this? most of the time.
Is this why you love art?
Fuck yeah.
