    hey Cyprinus,
You've got a really cool style which I feel lends itself to creating some really cool fantasy characters, I really liked the artwork in post #10 as it shows a good range of anatomy studies (which you seem to keep improving on whihc is great) and stylized artwork (the 3 character collage at the end has great composition, how did you do such clean lines in PS as thats something I'm stuck on doing for one of my pieces of art).
Try to knock out some real life studies of anatomy as it allows for more freedom than a refernece book; but keep it up as I really liked alot of your work.

    Chris

What's all this lead doing on my paper?

Hm ... maybe you should do more studies from life (and apply what you learned) if you feel that the copying isn't doing you any good. Truth to be told the hand studies do look kinda sloppy. Take your time with everything! The portrait is very nice though =3

@Kambei Shimada: Thank you! I'm glad to hear that there is somebody who likes my stylised work

    @Cameli: Thank you! I will ;D

@himself: Thank you, I'm glad you like my style! I'll try doing some more anatomy studies whenever I can find the time for it...as for my lines, the ones from the picture you speak of were done with a pen in traditional inking. I can't ink with ps or any other programe...too hard D:

@derss: It makes me even more happy when you say you like my works even if you usually don't like Manga-Style that much. Thank you!

@erdbeerfeldheld: Yes...I really would like to go to a life drawing course sometime...however, atm I lack money and time =( I guess this just has to wait...so I'll continue copying from photos. And yes you're right I didn't spend much time on the hand studies. Glad you like the portrait, though

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, how are you all doing? I hope you are fine! Unfortunately lately I'm quite caught in my studies and so I don't have much time left to do studies. Also the time left I spend on drawing my usual manga-stuff because I'm trying desperatley to throw some stuff together to sell at cons and such.
However, I thought I could post those illustrations and sketches here as well. Good thing is that I have some more freetime ahead now and that I might find time to do some real studies again...!

Here we go; some of them are already a bit older, The two bigger illustrations were coloured with water colours. Beware of a lot of mermaids and merboys.

@ Janaschi: Haha..you have no idea how happy I was after your comment Thank you! Next time we'll meet we'll mess around a bit with watercolors and the structure gel!

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Shame on me I did not as much as I wanted to (insert self-slap here), however the time of resting gave me a chance to build up new energy-reserves. I even did some studies again. However, I have huge problems with digital studies (not only because I'm so inexperienced) but also with my eyes. Can't work too long in front of the screen atm.

Well, here you are: first outlines for an illustration, a small card-illustration, a digital study with photo ref (not very refined I have to say...probably 1 1/2h? ), two pose studies with photo refs, jewelry and face without ref and some samurai silhoulettes. I have problems with full bodies and poses and now I want to approach slowly and overcome my failure-fear when drawing them....I hope this will work out! I need to get a feeling for it!

C&C as always appreciated! Thanks for looking and have a nice day everyone!

Some of your work reminds me of Amano, only better. I love your washes, they are awesome.
I'm glad to see that you are doing some work other than just your anime work, I think that in the end your more realistic stuff will strengthen your stylized work!

Keep up the good work please!
I wanna see more when I come back here!

I'm sorry I'm so late with replying and all @___@ my real life really is busy atm...

léJeanX3: OMG Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them x)

Huey Yeng, Rich_C, sarbro: Thank you so much n(_ _)n

Archaeone Ciel: Glad you like them Watercolors can be evil, but practising is the key.

Mr.Alamo, C.: Heeeeeyy thank you ! I'm glad you like my stuff. I think I have never really inked the stuff of somebody else (only one or two times) Can be interesting though..but I'm always very slow OTL but you're totally right, I HAVE to draw more full body pics, but I'm really not good at them. I always feel a bit ashamed when I post them OTL

    mary-cherry-me: Thank you

greyskill: OMG thank you! I definately have to practise more "real" stuff....will hopefully get some time to practise soon :3

Hanny: Soooo endlich mein Update XD Freut mich dass dir meine Sachen gefallen, ich schreib gleich nochmal was bei dir, ich update bloss erstmal hier fertig...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I hope you have all been fine! The last months were busybusybusy and I didn't have much time to practise so this is a crappy update I feel quite ashamed about it. I promise though that the next one will hopefully better!

Fellow Artist Hanny and me decided to set up a litte sketchgropu in order to feel forced to do something and get off the sofa XD so yeah, we made the decision that we'll update every sunday so expect to see more from me - even if it's just one picture.

Here's some stuff: two finished illustrations and sketches.

Haha the last one is actually really funny! It shows how unorganized I work normally when I practise. Can't even remember why I used a ballpoint pen of all things though I really looooove them.

I have a problem though, everytime I want to practise I feel overwhelmed because in fact...I have so many things to work on, I simply don't know where to start. ARGH. I have to set up a schedule. How do you efficiently practise normally folks? Do you have schedule or something...

Ah that's all..this update is so lame orz

the studies on page one are very well done & i really like your imaginary works can't help much in the "being organized department" as i happen to be quite disorganized as well

    Great sketchbook by the way

Your lineart weight is beautiful as always. *__*

The thing about practice is that every person varies in their workflow. Just find yourself some free time and make a checklist. Try to complete the checklist and evaluate your studies or work. If you still feel you are not up to the standard you're aiming for it means more practice is needed--

Whenever you feel like drifting away from the actual practice, go ahead and doodle things you feel like drawing. Whenever I want to practice realism head, I sure feel like drawing manga style head- Damn I need to discipline myself to practice more realism.

Okay, today is Sunday which means that today is update-day!

@ miycko: Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like my sketchbook. It seems like we are all a little bit disorganized at the moment.

    @ Hanny: Danke dir Ja, die Nase...die ist sehr seltsam geworden. Das ist mir beim Schattieren dann aber erst so richtig aufgefallen (ich zeichne immer so ein bissl die Umrisse auf und so). Irgendwie hab ichs aber dann nicht geschafft, das noch zu korrigieren bzw. hab ich irgendwie aufgegeben XD der Buntstift hat sich so bescheiden wieder wegradieren lassen auf diesem billigen Skizzenbuchpapier |D Manchmal glaube ich echt die Skizzenbücher erlauben keine Korrekturen OTL Ich muss auch alles üben DX;

@Huey Yeng: Thaaaaaaaaaanks *_* I acutally did what you advised and set up a little schedule :3 However, I know the thing about the discipline...but in the end I think...a little enforcement is good, but not too much...I don't want to lose all fun if I force myself too hard...OTL

Okay, so like I mentioned above I made a little schedule what I want to practice every day. I tried keeping to it, and in some parts I had success, but some parts were still neglected due to different circumstances =( My exams are right up ahead and my brain feels like it's melting away and of course those exams eat all my time. Sometimes I also have little ACEO-Commishs and of course they have to be finished...sigh. However, here's what I did: I declared Monday my portrait-day, so have a portrait...Tuesday is environment/background day...so I tried something like an atmospheric background thingy...lol it's not very refined but it's the first time I tried something like that XD

I wanted to practice anatomy too but didn't feel strong enough for this fight =/ The thing is, when I do something like those digital portrait doodles it takes me HOURS....HOURS I tell you. Horrible ._.

However, I have my schedule now, and I also read a bit about color theory and Itten's contrasts, doodled around a bit....guess I wasn't too lazy...has to get better though >:

I'm thankful for every bit of advise and criticism I get

    Smile Very Nice

    Hey,
I'm lovin your sketchbook. I saw a character on the first page and I instantly new it was from Vagabond. Inoue's work is so detailed!!!

Anyways, I like what your doing up here. I was reading your comments and it seems like you really want to post amazing things in your sketchbook, and I completely understand. But, if your planning on posting every week then that might be stressful. Recently I've just treated my sketchbook like a journal where I post my practice work throughout the week and I save my big works for their own personal threads... even though I haven't gotten around to finishing them yet.

But regardless, my sketchbook looks really ghetto. But what people don't know is I work for image comics. I'm here for critique where I need it. Screw the negative people, right?

I'm just posting this in the hopes it might help you avoid some stress, cause I really like your stuff.

Phew! Hey guys, I'm sorry for the one day delay in posting, however today I had an exam (it was a presentation) and I had hell of a lot of stoff to prepare the weekend...and I was so nervous I didn't even get to scan my stuff from last week!

    @ Hanny:
Thank you! Yes, after you mentioned the nose I thought about the general picture again and I got the impression that the whole picture itself is kind of flat and lacks contrast. If I can find the time and inspiration I'll probably change this...and yes xD the neck is really long in this picture...it's not supposed to be THAT long XD; I concentrated on the face and the rest, and then the neck gets too long. I think it's really hard not to lose the general overview about the whole picture @__@

I read on Wikipedia and several sites on the net simply by googling "Color Theory". However, here on CA I disocovered this link: The Dimensions of Colour

Hach ja, der Manga-Style...irgendwie will ichs aber auch nich wirklich lassen XD Willst dus?

@ Michaelsama: Thank you! I'm glad you like my stuff. And yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah, Inoue's stuff is very very amazing and detailend and pure love Now that I think of it, gotta do some Inoue studies again some day! I have do admitt you totally got me there...I often feel embarassed when I post work which is not as refined or which is full of faults...however, I guess you're totally right, I mean at least I'm here to improve and I shouldn't be ashamed.

Well last week I thought about my stuff a bit and I thought that I really need to practice perspective...I'm getting a feeling that I don't have a good 3-D imagination - it's very hard for me. And things often turn out deadly wrong =( I hope this is just a matter of practice and doesn't show that I'm untalented...argh. Anyway, here are some exercices from this week and I also tried a Cel-Shade with the character from the last post.

Ah I just noticed I forgot to scan one page, I'll post it with the next post, I'm just too tired atm because I had to get up at 5:00 am x_x

and yes.. perspective is our topic ^^°
