    I don't update enough ... but here's one anyway
The first is a sketch... I like her face but she's about as lively as a corpse I really need to work on learning to make more dynamic images.

These two where my entries for the last two chows.

    The Dragon's Egg

Actually all of these are a bit stiff, and its driving me a bit nuts to be honest
Anyone got some suggestions on any study materials or anything for
more dynamic poses and/or camera angels? or just loosing up in general

    Thanks for any help

    Take care,
    Adam

Awesome stuff man. Love the last chow piece, very movie posterish, which is always a plus for me. I send you a pm regarding team chow. Think about it, with a third member we could be a great group.

    Cheers

    Ohhhhh!
    Sooo nice characters!
    Looks all great!
Did you use a book which helped you much?
Or just drawing from reference, mind, ref, mind, ... ?

    Go on like that!

    Sketchbook full of awesome

Hey Adam, I'm a pretty new member here and have managed to stumble onto your sketchbook. First off not only are the improvements you've made from your starting images to the ones at the end amazing but the flair for character creation and composition you have is great as well.

I was also impressed by how much your photoshop skills progressed from the funky goblin gunslinger which everyone seems to love (and rightly so), to the image of the demon with wings seeming to have an internal battle, which is one of my favourites.

Just wanted to let you know that your sketchbook is a great inspiration to me as I'm looking to break through to using digital painting to improve my sketches. I was curious as to how you started out using photoshop, was it just pure experimentation or did you find a useful tutorial?

Keep going strong and I look forward to more pieces.

    Chris

great progress since the first skech. Tons of inspiration here!
Some remarks: Your pieces are well structured from the very beginning. You also have a great talent to add many beautyful details to your paintings. Your main problem - I guess - is shading and coloring. As far as I see you tend to shade and color every object of a picture separately without considering how those shades and colors interact with each other. This makes every detail of the piece look correct but it also makes the big picture fall apart and hard to read. Those pieces work much better which you colored in a different way.
    just some examples:
    - your supervillain self-portrait: The bottom part is all blue the top part is all orange, but the little variations of color make the whole piece come together.
    - that beautiful piece with the kneeing angel-devil guy. Left part is red-orange, right part is pale yellow-green. I like it very much. And no detail in the shaded parts - which make the detailed important parts pop out.
    - same with that centaur guy in post 42. Subtle color scheme, consistant shading, flawless composition.
    - and that frankenstein piece - a really great piece of work. (and that one for you wife too)

But to talk about that dragon's egg piece - it shows all the weakness of your previous pieces. The color scheme is kinda random. Too much blue and no warm colors. The shading is complicated and inconsistant (the robot guy indicates that there is a big white light source behind the viewer, but it cant be seen on the guy left. The right arm of the robot is totally dark but the guy behind him is full colored - though there should be at least some cast shadows on him from the robot guy. That glowing medallion makes the whole shading task much harder - I know - but next time I guess you should try to render all the characters considering only one primary ligh source and add secondary light sources later)

Long story short: I think you've already found the (or at least 'one') working method to create great pieces. Experiment with it (the two-color schemes look nice, but you should try to play around with more colors in one piece), but don't forget to turn back at dead ends!
Keep up the great work, man!

I think to liven up your poses you could probably exaggerate the twist and bends in the torso. To some extent your proportions are off in the last post, I notice you tend to make people's arms a little on the short side, which could contribute to them seeming a little stiff.

I think the girl in the last image has great movement.

First let me apologize for not updating very ofte... I mean ever
There really isn't any good excuse so... I am going to start loading some of
the images that I've done since I last updated... a few at a time at least.

However for tonight I'm going to post two wips that I am currently
    working on.

First is a D&D pin-up challenge that I am working on for ArtOrder.

    Name: Drow pinupwip2.jpg
Views: 319
Size: 136.9 KB

I'm not so sure that it still falls in the realm of "pin-up" but <shrug> I'm
having fun with it. When I thought of doing a Drow pin-up I immediately
thought of the classic Betty Page bondage pin-ups. So that was kind of what
I was going for... but its taken on a bit of a life of its own at this point.

The second is a wip for a Frank Frezetta tribute/Conan the Cimmerian
    Storytellers contest on CGhub.

    Name: Conanwip1.jpg
Views: 318
Size: 299.1 KB

Its meant to be a wrap around illo for a book cover... any similarity to any
actual Conan story , however, is just serendipitous coincidence. I didn't
base it on any particular Conan story. Since even though I am a big
Conan fan sadly I haven't ever been able to spend a lot of time reading
many of the Conan novels. So I just took elements that are common
themes in the few I have read and made a composition I liked

I'm also currently working on design ideas for the 200th CHOW but I'm
still in my idea development stage... When I get a good wip I'll post it up.

Well... thank you anyone and everyone who has decided to stop by my sb
    I hope you liked it.

Also thank you to everyone for the comments and crits it's always
    wonderful to get feedback.

    Take care,
    Adam

ok what's next... ahh ok Kitsune

Another CHOW a Kitsune or Japanese fox spirit. Really the best thing
about this image imo is the tattoo I'm really proud of how it turned out
but I really could take or leave the rest

    Name: kitsune.jpg
Views: 316

ok... now don't laugh to hard... I've been trying my had at doing some
environment work... this is actually the first eviro I've ever really
attempted still have lots to learn in this area... I should really give the

    Anyway...

the Tower of the Tyrant King
Name: tower of the tyrant king.jpg

And last but not least an updated wip on the D&D "pin-up"... fixed a lot of
problems I was having now I think it will just be a matter of cleaning up
    the rendering
    Name: Drow pinupwip3.jpg
Views: 301
Size: 137.9 KB

Well thats it for tonight I will try to update again tomorrow or Fri.

    Name: party crasher.jpg
Views: 301
Size: 172.9 KB

And last... My D&D Drow pin-up for ArtOrder... Still could work on it a bit but like

ok past time to update again... this time some wips I've been working on
racial pictures for a fantasy larp (Live Action Role-Playing game for those
of you who don't already know - yes I'll admit it... I am that big of a dork...
well that and it is just fun to run around in the woods and hit people with
foam weapons ) I play in Kings Mountain NC. The game setting has
recently gone through some major changes and the basic player
character races have changed. So, the idea with my pictures is to design
interesting characters that make players want to play the new races
while providing character and costume designs that aren't so far out
there that they couldn't be reproduced outside of a Hollywood movie
    studio.

Anywho... these are just some rough wips that I've been working up
enough to get approval from the game owners... when I get roughs done
for the whole set I plan to go back and finish up the illos.

First off we have the Dwarves which in the game setting are supposed to
be standard fantasy dwarves with a society based largely on Greek aesthetics.
    Name: AmarothDwarveswip1.jpg
Views: 258
Size: 133.4 KB

Then we the Slyvani a nomadic race of plant people
    Name: Amaroth Sylvani2.jpg
Views: 265
Size: 151.5 KB

and then we have the default human race of the setting... the Barbarians
    Name: Amaroth Barbarian.jpg
Views: 262
Size: 160.9 KB

there are 6 other races to go but these are the first three once I get
approval on the others I will post my wips of them as well

well got to head to work now thanks for stopping by

    take care

Cool stuff! I really like the latest character designs. However, it's often difficult to see where the light is coming from in your work. Try to define the light sources better and stick to them

Really nice work overall! Keep going!

    Barbarians FTW!!

Really nice concepts, I really like them (the concept of a nomad plant is quite new for me).. the only critique I'd make is that dwarven race look a bit like 300 gone chibi

    More!!
