Update time. Being too lazy, must make more exercise. I realized that most of my portfolio is made of images about one and up to two years old. This means little progress.

Current EoW work in progress and exercises:

these last updates i've missed are really really great man, love the enviroments, envy your movie still studies and the characters have progressed so much (love the isometric ones, esp the elf)

    ciao!

Sublimus thank you! I'm still struggling with figures and anatomy though...

Gnoll thank you man, I think movie stills are very useful to learn how to create mood in a piece.

Finally! Autumn's Treasures: the Jade Coin has been released! It contains some of my first professional works as a digital artist. Here are some of them...

Does anybody know how to change the image that appears next to the title in the sketchbooks main thread, please????

Cool job dude, nice to see that you work a lot. Why you don't post these works on the Finally Finished Section?

Nice work on the game! I agree that you should make a ff thread for it. And the EOW looks quite nice too! (The pic is shows the first image uploaded via image manager) I'm curious: are you still doing architecture?

    wow!
latest update is really really impressive, loving every single pic (but my fav is the furnacelab-room-thing and the chinese undeground lair! the depth of detail and research i really impressive.

    ciao!

anjin, Katia LeMpka, thank you for the encouragement!
Tizzy thank you! Making exercise about everything is tough but I try to keep up with it. Sometimes I think it would be better for me to concentrate on something specific (i.e. environments).
Drawing on buses is great, I can blame the bus if my line aren't straight and my drawings are messy...

Coloring sketches = fun. This is one of the sketches above roughly colored to explore colors and lighting. Comments warmly welcome. I would like to rework it and make a good portfolio piece...

hey man, still going strong as usual, love the toned paper sketches, esp the lighthouse one, would end up a cool enviro with a nice atmosphere.the first study in post 136 is pretty awesome too, but what made me post is the last scarecrow piece, its great.Only thing missing is a connection between character and enviroment, to make them "fit together"

ci sentiamo presto per "la gita!

    ciao!

ICH thank you man!! (will you ever update your sb?)
TheGnoll you're so right... I wanted to leave the background quite featureless but I actually made the whole look flat. I added a bit of shadow cast by the scarecrow to make it interact with the environment. I don't think is enough to change the look of the image though.
Anyway I think I'll redo the whole image from scratch and with a more painterly approach instead of the "multi-pass" technique I used (flat colors + shadows layer + light layer + etc.).

    Hi!

I just have an question about "Autumn's Treasures: the Jade Coin".

How you guys prepared the boards for enviroment location for production. Do you make concepts? If yes, what issues was important?
I start working at the studio which makes HO games after few years working on AAA games and I'm a bit confused about thiere making of the location stage.
So, if you share with your experiance that makes me happy ^^

    all the best,
    mariusz

mariusz The process is quite simple: first we read the script carefully, then we make concepts paying attention to active areas and things players can interact with, we receive feedbacks, we go on refining the chosen solution. In my case I usually make an accurate sketch in PS (using a 3d as base if a complex perspective is involved) and then paint over it.
