    Smiley Suggestions!

    Hi there,

I wanna compliment you guys for some of these awesome smileys-- I think they really represent CA as an art site.

The unique existing ones, while really cool, are sometimes hard to squeeze into forum conversations.

So I came up with a list of a few, and perhaps a couple more "useful" ones:

---":flamewar:" Two little smilies facing each other with flamethrowers with angry red faces! Great for use on posts that are doomed to lockage.

---" or " A "That's-sooooo-hilarious!" type of smiley. While I see a lot of them are happy, none are actually laughing, at least not hard anyway. A smiley cracking up would probably be really useful.

---":bigger:" One that's like only "bigger". Woudldn't be too hard to edit, and some big things are good, like monitors and tablets!

---"a:1: :2: :3:" etc... Shaky numbers to add to the letters.

---Icons representing "...Of the Week". Sort of like . For example, :eow: could be a simple little landscape.

---":money:" or ":expensive:" A huge wad of money, used to talk about something you think is super-expensive. (Since this is an international forum perhaps it should be a big pile of gold instead of an individual sign like the dollar.)

---":crap:" A pile of poop. Perhaps resembling dog and horse poop, flies, etc... Perhaps it could be used while talking about the Orphan Works Act. I realize there's already . Perhaps it could be changed to this more graphic and representative icon, modelled off of real bull feces!

---":mb:" The Massive Black icon. Just seems like kind of a given.

---":da:" How about the bonking that little deviantArt character with his CA flag? (I have nothing major against dA, but as long as the emoticon doesn't violate any trademarks, I could see it coming in handy, as I frequently see dA mentioned in a negative light.)

---":cali:" A "California" icon. It could be the outline of the state, or some other indication. So much of what pertains to this forum seems to be linked to that state.

---":puke:" I can see future usages for this such animated emoticon.

---A couple icons portraying the "cliche". A little spaceship called :scifi: and a little wizard called :fantasy:, perhaps a little generic superhero guy called :comic:.

So yeah, if anyone else has suggestions put 'em here!

On a related note, what is the origin and/or meaning of these ones? --

    Good ideas

On a related note, what is the origin and/or meaning of these ones? --
Not sure on the middle one, but I'm guessing the others are based on these:

Almost all of our icons (if not all) were made by members here, so if you have an idea go ahead and make it. Download one of the current icons and use it to create the new one from.

EDIT: I attached a psd file that has a template for creating smilies (file created by Prom).

A facepalm one would come in handy when the freelance forums turn into a big clusterboink of "Check out the DA link in my sig" posts.

If you scroll your cursor over an icon it mentions the name of the icon.
Those three you were "unsure of" were HARBL, BLIND and CANADIAN.
    HARBL
1:A word that originated on the 4chan imageboards. People are divided on what it came from, some say it is a bastardisation of harbour, some say it is a bastardisation of horrible. Others think it spawned as a word in itself. It is used mainly to refer to the male reproductive organ, although it can sometimes refer to the female reproductive organ.

2:While it seems to have multiple ideal origins, one that seems to make more sense would be a cats testicles. Testicles are often refered to as balls, and cats have hairballs, remove some letters, you get harbl. This word most likely originated through pictures on 4chan.

Am I the only one who feels that there needs to be some kind of glossary for the smilies?

I never use smilies, but I can cant help but wonder about these hundreds (?) of smilies that seem to refer to a specific person, event, some specific piece of art or something mean.

They must have some rich and varied history, or perhaps they serve as cryptic pictorial reminders of events that transpired long ago.

I'd like to know more about them.

Wow... I had no idea Ilaekae had his own smiley, I actually thought that one referred to DA for some reason

    Elwell Related ?!?

To what members or events do the following refer to?

An unnamed, one eyed forum member?

    Andrew Loomis?

    Any specific person for this?

    Magicgoo?

    Qitsune?

    Some sort of celebratory incident?

    Emily G?

Any specific person for this? (can think of few... wont name them)

    Bowling enthusiast?

A topic that is about to blow up into drama?

This is Elwell right? I remember one time where he said he looked like Edmund Blackadder.

    Inflation Art?

    Dont know who this is.

    Bob Ross?

Unnamed Culinary artist that post his edible works ?

...and if we don't get one soon, we better do an Old Man Smashing Whiners with a Big Stick icon, because I am getting soooooooo tired of the whining...

Nothing personal, people. I know we all get depressed once in a while, but the last couple of weeks have been a real g'damn drag...

Love this thread... You smiley guys really crack me up.

    My humble requests...

1.) Deadpan smiley with closed window next to him. Smiley opens window, revealing light blue sky and buildings, then jumps out.

    2. Smiley at drawing board. Gets frustrated with art, turns red, smashes board into a heap of rubble, He returns to yellow color, then turns and calmly walks away from us getting smaller and smaller until he disappears at the horizon .

    3. Pot Talk smiley. A smiley smoking a spliff, head lolling this way and that, blabbing as smoke drifts from his mouth.

On Elwell's "woosh" smiley... How about a smiley facing directly at us with a zombified thousand yard stare and a dumb mouth-agape expression, as lightbulb after lightbulb, in a horizontal procession, pass over his head.

I just thought i'd add a reference photo to those whom havent seen the legendary picard facepalm. by the way, a picard facepalm would be amazing.
