Topic: Dream Splicer
Background: Little background this time, it's basically a two-word topic where you are free to interpret it. Key word in this topic is 'dream', it should basically be a device that does something with your dreams -enhance them, make them more enjoyable or actually makes your worst nightmare come true before your eyes, whatever.
In my dictionary, the word splicer comes from cutting and editing in film reels. Just so you know
1. Design and draw a device that meddles with your dreams: a Dream Splicer!
2. That's it... now draw!
Deadline: Wednesday, August 27
like a head splicer?
Perfect, we've been talking about dreams in Ventrilo the past few nights. :]
The dreamscape phenomenon.

*slinks off to sulk*
struggling ... here is my initial sketch for this topic and a little thumb-thingy ... c&c please ...
concept : the dream splicer could be used as a mental torture chamber/cell or even a regular dream simulator , the subject is first partially sedated and rendered immobile , injected with drugs which make the BP rise (high BP genrally accompanies bad dreams , BP carefully contolled etc. and then given mild hallucination drugs as a catalyst . The back of that chair pierces hundreds of small needles at the precise points of the spine and injects electromagnetic impulse charges into the spinal cord directly , forcing the brain to secrete chemical acetylcholine and repelling the production of other neurotransmitters (noradrenaline and serotonin) produced by other cells in the pons which switch off the REM .The REM (rapid eye movement) phase of sleep is the dream phase . The little "eye shooter" ( shown like a little needle in the sketch) projects a direct image of the dream which is pre-installed in the supercomputer which controlls it .
i know its a little out there ...
did some research on the thing

Chaosrocks, I like your thumbnail - it looks like Dajeil Galaen's living room in Excession. Mewant more!
vibhas virwani, going for an evil scientist apparatus, it seems - I pity the guy in there. The amount of machinery attached to his head is undoubtedly going to make his imagination run wind, anyway!
Will we be able to see him through the sphere? If so, would his eyes be closed or not?
Looking good vibhas. lookin' meeeean
Deadline is too close for me unforutunately. just back off hols and I've already got a busy week, lol.
Fingers crossed will join you next week
Hey guys, first time I've done one of these, thought I'd give it a try. Nice and open brief, just the way I like it! Will try to post the finished version with full color and textures by tomorrow, got a slow couple of days with work.
Here's my wip - looks a bit more like a steampunk war-machine, but I'll make some changes.
Edit: This is the updated wip, looks a little better. Still needs cleaning.

update.... needsa good cleaning
Wow...nifty designs everyone! Noticed this one right before lunch, don't know why I missed it all week, and decided to take a stab at a sketch.
So this little would be tiny enough to be inserted into the sleeping body, and it makes it's way to the brain via remote control. The dividers and inserter prick into appropriate portions of the brain. The divders diffuse the current brain activity leaving an opening for suggestion. The controller will send images, via remote control, to the flexible receiver.
I'd like to have a little more time to think that out. Not so sure on the mechanics for it reaching the brain, and the capacity of the receiver. Like can the controller receive back the current dream happenings?? Hmmm...
hi guys (and girls)
this is my first post to concept art, I've been taken in by the idea of a weekly design task to help get me up to speed, so here'e my first, finished entry which I've worked up this morning, I look forward to your comments and having a go at further IDOW in the future!
miniphase thats a nice piece there!
I should have mine up tonight, please keep it open till midnight Yoitisi
I'd like to do something more refined next time round, came across this whole 'design of the week' deal a little late in the week (like today)!
So here is my concept. It's an.. interesting presentation I suppose.
My idea is that we're able to create a substance that when injected into our blood stream causes us to dream or hallucinate certain things. This substance is easily created and configured, so doctors are able to get us to "dream" what ever we want to dream about.
The main device is the splicer, this product is attached onto the back of the users neck 15 minutes before they go to sleep, and removed when they lay down. So there is no interference with their slumber, it is perfectly normal, and they get to dream about winning the lottery, concept art, or playboy for example.
So how the splicer works is that when a dream is injected into the main bubble, it is sorted into one of the four quadrants. You can then add more dreams, the images you see when you are sleeping come in order of your entering them into the splicer. You have the option of entering four different dream tubes into your splicer, and also mixing them so they come in a random order.
My storage container is week, but I wanted to some how display that there are numerous different types of dream you can induce, and that my kit comes with a storage unit, an injector, and the splicer itself.
Thanks for viewing!
miniphase, that's brilliant! It looks so menacing, and your use of ink really brings the focal point together. Best so far.
This is my complete version - hope it's good enough. There are parts I want to change but there be not enough time.
Design: This apparatus was originally a gruelling interrogation device, installing the most horrific fears within criminals. It was grey, metal and powered by the brains of grumpy old men, on the electromangetic spire.
The nobles of the land of Belmora, meanwhile, were growing tired of their drug brews and alcoholic beverages - and so they decided to use this nightmare-splicing machine to become what is seen in the picture: an aptly crafted beauteous dream-splicer.
Instead of being powered by grumpy old men, the new device is powered by old and ancient minds, such as Aldous Huxley and Oscar Wilde. The helmet seen is an automatic inhalation device. Now the monarch and his nobles can look forward to vivid and meaningful dreams that challenge their minds each night, despite being rather uncomfortable.
The thought with this concept is to gang up a room full of individuals and allow them to live inside each others' minds, eventually creating a realistic dream world.
Hey guys. Sorry I've been absent for sometime. But I finally found sometime to draw again! Here's my entry and I hope to be around for more.
My idea just went along the lines of dream splicing therapy. I took my main inspiration from a CAT scan machine. Its a piece of medical equipment that can find your dreams, record them, and if needed... spliced for the desired effect.
Opinions and critiques always welcomed!
sorry Yoit m-dear... Im off to dragon con... can't polish.... ove course I suck at polishing anyway
well didnt have too much time but here is my entry, good fun!
