Snootchy, thanks. I'm trying not to trace it, but I guess it does look like it huh. Will have to stab at it some more I think. And yeah, the slider technique is a bit weird at first, but I could get used to it. If there's any basic principle you should take seriously, it's weight. All the rest follow suit, but without weight, your movement will be blah.

Kelly_X, hi! Thanks for stopping by

Serio, cheers for your kind words, thanks for looking.

Ashess, of course I've heard of the 12 principles I'm not sure what pieces you're referring to, but assuming it's my old group film work. Not that this should be an excuse, but I was incredibly restricted when it came to working a lot of animation for that project. The director had a specific idea and specific time for everything and I had to play ball with what he gave me. It didn't pan out as well as it could have, but you live and you learn.
I'll check out the storyboard thing some time, not much of a storyboard artist myself though.

    ---

And here's some life drawings from tonight.

Awesome life drawings. Very effective and beautiful lines :o I especially like how you achieve those nice faces with just a few well placed lines.
Maybe because i fuck most of mine up, haha. Well, I'll work on that... that's for sure.

    Keep drawing

Life drawings look great. They feel light and free and have a sense of flow to them. It's pretty cool that you can maintain your cartoony style even while drawing from life. I couldn't do that.

Muzz, you probably have indeed. Brett's a veteran around Brissy.
Peetaer, cheers. I'm trying to get away from that 'cartoony' style for drawings like this, but it still lingers
    Snootchy, thanks mate.
Pandahund, thanks for the kind words, but I'm not sure about the 'well placed lines' part.

That "girl outta the box" animation is really really fun. I can look at it for a looooong time. The last figure drawing is very graceful, well done!

    Progress post is here.

CHoW piece. Yeah, I have value issues, but am trying to nut it out from what has been suggested by someone. Also tried to fix the perspective on the end of the pipe too.

Also, some sketches from Saturday's sketchgroup.

More practice needed (and floppier sleeves covering her hands), but I'm calling this one done.

woh bleu very nice job on that last chow! its nice to see a more finished piece in ur SB also goof depth created from the use of perspective of the pipe

something about the angle of the stick held by the leftarm seems a tad off

great to see some finished stuff keep em coming

Yeah, a finished piece! Way to go! I like how you've handled depicting the water. How you went about constructing that tunnel was instructive too. I think you should have maintained some of the harder edges you previously had in her clothing because the picture is a bit too smoothed out all around. Anyway, good job on the CHOW. Looking forward to seeing how the Princess finishes up!

oh yay i really like it. stoner '09? lol only crit would be the angles of the feet look like they are a teency bit too far to the left (from our point of view). other than that good composition and lighting, i dont really think there are value issues, it looks fine to me.

Those cartoons are fantastic...great characters and confident shading. I especially like the cowboy and the guy with the bandages. I think the color sea-lady would be even stronger if you used a hard-edged brush throughout, especially on the seaweed. Also, the seaweed clumps in the foreground are competing with her for attention...perhaps they could be slightly out of focus or somehow less prominent? She's got a great design--handy insta-bikini! Great work!

Hey Bleu, great work on the underwater sea princes and sketches; glad to see you working on more of finish in color too!!

For the underwtaer sea princess, i think the image appears a bit flat as the water above her seems to be on the same plane because the colors appear to be the same saturation throughout, even in an underwater shot atmosphere can be created by using more desaturated blues in the way back and becoming more saturated in the foreground (maybe even some sea debris or dust particles kicking up to add some life outside of the main character but not too much that it takes away from the subject); the overall figure appears to be a bit soft; the form could use some hard edges make it feel like it has weight, i think the overall lighting on the form is great and could use some a tad more refinement; oh also along with the sunlit rays coming from above; it can also help to establish depth by varying the degree of intesity as light rays in the distance are not as bright

i'm liking ur approach to taking ur lines one step up with lighting in mind, u have a great way of simplifying the values keeping the value structure organized, nice s-curves rhythm going on in that mermaid sketch!

the color palette for the last dragon in armor sketch is great, u can punch this up with so many lights darks saturation highlights or whatever u wish, I wish i could get an underpainting like that as base to work off, i hope u decide to push that one in particular just because the underpainting is looking great!!

Keep up the great work! If you're heart or mind isn't into it then it's always good to step away from it rather than produce subpar subjects that you won't be proud of; no worries and keep the pencil moving when u feel it

Drawing is a great procrastination aid. Really nice hands here and that demon's pose and facial expression are very emotive. Well done!

Very nice stuff! That red devil has a lot of character. I'd say the water lady could use another round of rendering. It lacks a real sense of depth. You could push up the contrast and apply some more shadow work.

    Keep them coming!
