I think perception is an abstraction, the mind couldn't process all that data available from reality.
And art adds another level of abstraction on top of perception.
And that's what makes it great in my opinion

Regarding Asperger you mentioned earlier, it seems it's kind of common among creative people, don't know why.
I've been told lifestyle can improve or worsen it.

Anyway you're really hitting the road with your studies and concepts. Your new way of doing line art is interesting, it would work well in comics.
I can't think of crits for the moment but I applaud your decision to work more from imagination.
Figurative fine art is, well, fine, but there's much more to art than just that.

this is an older one, from a photo at cgtextures.com. I said I wasn't going to post any copies but this has been lying around for months. The others are not from reference.

Maybe I told only nonsense in my previous message above. Let me know if you'd rather see me delete it.
The cityscape is great, and scary.
On the first picture I almost missed the character on the dark foreground. Maybe a few highlighted outlines would help?

I like the camp fire one a lot.

In the city scape, I can't tell if that is fire or lights coming from the buildings. I assume fire because the colors are the same. Nothing looks destroyed though.

Don't worry about it Leo, I appreciate that someone responded to that post anyway.
I think people with aspergers become creative because frankly there isn't much else to do when you're not as connected to others. But I don't really know.

Ya know if I was completely honest this thread should be called "I get tired of not being good enough".

Dissatisfaction is the most common thing shared by artists
But define "good enough" and estimate how many years it takes to get there...
The soldier is "good enough" rendered and designed for concept art work in my opinion.
You even put an emotion on his face instead of the blank faces that are often seen (although the blankness might be on purpose).
What are the things you think you're not good enough at? We could make SSG trainings in specific topics, what do you think?

I don't know what good enough is but I hoped I would be employed by now.
Maybe its going to take a couple more years...who knows.
    Well, back to work.

Also I tried to remove the poll at the top of the thread but I'm told there's no way to do this! boourns. guess we'll have to live with it.

"Excuse me, are you saying BOO or BOOURNS?"

We're all feeling the pinch, man. Economy sucks all around. But you've been putting out good work so you've got that going for ya.

Your soldier looks good, but his right arm is funny. It gets really small around the wrist and looks almost cylindrical. His knee pads also look like a smiley face. '_' That's not really a critique, I just thought it was humorous.

There's some really cool art going on here. On the city scape I'd put some fighters in perspective in the foreground to add some depth. You've got an inspirational SB, thanks for sharing, and good luck getting a job I hope something happens for you soon.

Really great job on this new figure! The lighting looks really good, too. I noticed that there's a bit of red reflect light coming from the right, but I only see it affecting his leg. Maybe show ow it's shining off of other parts of the armor and figure? Also, don't forget to use different colors in the skin, and not just "flesh tone".

    Well, back to work.
Employed in concept art? Maybe try different avenues, freelance illustration, portraits, matte painting... anything that gets you out of just training. There's so much different things in art, and life is seldom a straight path. I've gotten used to zigzag driving ^^

Also I tried to remove the poll at the top of the thread but I'm told there's no way to do this! boourns. guess we'll have to live with it.
Neither is it possible to change a vote, for instance when a sketchbook improves you can't re-vote it more stars...

hey mate these last updates are very good. The characters looks great, and maybe he needs some more contrast in the rendering. This last enviroment is also great and maybe you could have some stronger shadows(hard edged ones when close to the object that creates the shadow, and softening when getting away from it).
    Keep up

heeeeeey, big improvement throughout the sketchbook. Your 3D knowledge looks like it's serving you well. The studies from photographs are seeping into your imaginary stuff aswell, am i right!? What would you say was the most important part of anatomy studies? i'm looking into doing more myself and interested to know how you approach them. Great environments, they're really coming on.

Nice job! Keep pushing the realism! There's still something about his hands that looks off to me... Maybe the edges are a bit too fuzzy?

    Hey all.
I posted an update to 2 older paintings in this thread. I think pages 2 and 3?
I will continue to work on the orange sunset cityscape thing, it needs some fixing.

    Whew
This one has been quite a challenge...
I started it months ago but couldn't get it "right"
I'm still not sure but I like many things in it, just not all of the structures.

Cool stuff dude, keep it up. I think you should push your environments a little more, some of them come off as a little generic with the shapes and designs of your structures. You've got it in you to make some really kick ass environments, just keep pushing yourself and don't be afraid to let go and do something crazy.
