NICE W! Carve those pixels! I really like your studies. My only crit for the house one is some stronger highlights are needed, in moderation of course.

    Great work.

    Hello there =)
Great updates, your painting is going along really well - but I wonder if you are gonna do a project sometime from imagination? Most of your stuff is with reference and seems to be for practice, but it would be really cool to see how that would be paying off in a concept.

I agree with wheezy, house needs more highlights. The white background is a little distracting, if you maybe added a little grey it would be easier to see how much you'll need and will make it stand out. Or maybe thats just me, either way, keep it up!

Hey there, your paintings are looking great. House especially. For Cristian Bale, the shadows on his face are very grey, as if you were using black to produce your shadows. Be sure to develop your shadows with colors to give the skin tone a warm, healthy appearance. Your pencil sketches are great as always, and the charcoal piece in post #132 is just wonderful. Keep posting!

thank you wheezy. There is something of a sculptural aspect to painting portrature. The comment of needs stronger highlights has been brought up, I didn't think so looking at my reference it could be a midtone issue actually.
Thanks for dropping in Volchiya, I'm glad you commented on the background. I think you are right.
Dierat: thank you. When colouring shadows which hue would you suggest?

I continue to work hard and ask questions about my work. I think emotional resonance is an issue, my subject matter has been a little dry at times. I'm actually a very moody person, it doesn't seem to come through I dont think...
I'll leave that for you guys to think about.

I usually work the base color + blue-purple for basic shadows, blue-green for cold shadows and I'll adjust it based on the surrounding color scheme. Since the piece is very black and cold you'd do want to keep your shadows very neutral; for skin that would mean more of a blue and brown mix with a slightly more purple direction for the warmer areas of the skin. Keep up the studies; you're progressing loads.

Looking good W. Can you go more into what you mean by new digital inking technique? I like the concept of your second character. The gun is a little anti climatic though. The hands look a bit small in the portrait, but I can tell you put in a lot of time into rendering. Very nice. Great update, can't wait to see more.

That old-comic-style inking looks promising. Inking is friggin difficult to master but it's rewarding in the end.
First sketch: if you bend his knees he will look more grumpy and dreadful as his face suggests.
Is the girl from ref? She looks a bit flat but maybe the lighting in the original was multiple? Anyway the painting is very smooth except in the few spots you have to finish.

For that technique its basically a hard round brush set to size jitter with pressure and pure black in the colour slot. Its really about deciding where to put paint and where not to.

W - I know one thing. You have enviros on lock man. I know you are getting more into character design etc, but I would really love to see what you could do with a alien civilization city concept and a full week of time in PS.

Nice, you have good skills and you have to keep improving them.
Keep up anatomy studies, mostly these if you wanna aim for characters, other than that keep your rendering trainings+enviroments

thank you imaginary. I have been working on a TON of drawings the last few weeks, I hope to get some scans soon as I think they are some of my best work.

thanks to you wheezy as well. I've left the enviros for now but I will return.

good advice kingK, take it easy.

    keep pushing,

be aware of continuity of your lines, and proportions

post 153: except the hair the face seems really high key, the value range used is light. Even is the ref is high, you should add contrast and use more black. When training, expand your value range to obtain max contrast.

Great sketches! I really like the boxers and the animals.

For some of the faces you have here, I think the proportions look good, but some of the eyes seem a little too big. Also, maybe try not outlining the noses as much, and try to describe them with shadows instead?

I think just one of the necks looks a little long, and that's the female bust shot at the top of the second page (it's particularly noticeable because all of the other figures have wonderful necks with excellent structure). The full body female figure just below her appears to have a small torso for the length of her legs. Other than that, looks great; nice update.

    Nice cow and excellent environments.

What's the spaceship? A beauty shot or rendering exercise or something? Watch the lenseflare on that background by the way, the edges are showing.

And yeah, keep going in this thread. It's displaying a ton of progress.

    thanks.

Its a Cylon Raider from Battlestar Galactica of course. Arguably the best science fiction show in the history of television.

I guess the crowd has spoken, I will continue posting in this thread.
