You people amaze me. It's incredible how much most of you managed to improve in just a matter of months. I'm afraid I haven't levelled-up that fast (yet!), but I'll throw this in just for fun Roughly a year between these two, with me joining CA sort of in the middle.

    This thread needs more lovin'.

First one was done two years ago (pathetic, considering I was in grade nine then). I did it shortly after discovering CA, and I had just began to get serious about art and study anatomy. Second one I just finished now (a couple days after turning 17).

This thread is both awesome and depressing! Awesome because everyone has made crazy improvement and it's really cool to see how far people go, and depressing because everyone seems to improve more in a year or two than I have in my entire life.

    Cool thread.
The first one was done on the 7th May 2009 - one year ago. I did the second one a few weeks back.
I've spent the last year trying to learn to draw and use Photoshop. As I said in my sp thread, if there is any improvement, it's due to the help, crits and advice of fellow ca.org members and friends.

I know I've probably contributed to this thread a lot, but I think it's a good idea to keep tabs on my progress.
Here's one from about when I joined CA:

    When I started college:

    Now:

I've noticed that I've been gradually dialing back the whole sci-fi aesthetic through my time here.

I almost wanted to do this but I was just looking at my first couple of posts in the WIP forum and I couldn't help but literally, shudder. I cringed. o_o Oh god. The horror. I can't believe I posted this abomination but it was necessary in my development: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=159776

    Must look away now...

But this is what happened after I stayed on here for a year: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=173947 It's flawed as fuck but it's not totally scary to look at.

This is a recent one: http://velderia.deviantart.com/art/F...ideo-164485381 Still flawed but at least I'm not blending the crap out of things.

These first two are from 2008. At this time, I thought the more you rendered something, the better the drawing would be. I don't find rendering very enjoyable...so it was really hard for me to finish a picture.

These days, my main focus is proportion, composition, line, and color choice. I don't render things to the same amount of detail anymore and I rather like it this way. I'm still struggling with foundations but I think my art is much better.

Well my sketchbook just turned a year old a few days ago. I noticed that at the beginning I had a 1 hour painting from a photo, so I decided to do another one within the same time and compare the two to see improvement. And...well you can see what I think in the picture.

What a great topic! It's incredible to look at all the improvement.
As most improvement was visibly at peoples artwork who started about 4 or 5 years ago, I can hope to be as good in about 2 years

Ok, that'a from Dec 2008 when I started posting here (Although my account is a little older )

It's like night and day...still got a long way to go, but I'm happy with my progress. If it weren't for CA.org's nurturing spirit, this would've been impossible, or at the very best taken me more years and time spent getting to this stage.
