Eric Wants To Learn More! - Need Critiqages!

Hey everybody, my name's Eric and I"m a soon to be sophomore at Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD). I'm majoring in Illustration. I have decided that I want to go into concept art for video games and movies and I would really appreciate it if you guys would give me critiques and comments as you always have, so I can improve and achieve my dream in the not too distant future. I'll be posting more digital pieces this time around, but of course there'll still be traditional pieces as well as my school work from this upcoming year.

To start off, here is a self portrait I did earlier today.

Welcome to CA! You're doing a pretty darn good job! I'm impressed with the painting. There's only one thing I saw on it (And I doubt I should even be treading on this, since I know little about color and digital painting myself... ) but the lighting on the nose looks just a tad weird to me. It just appears to be lines rather than lighting...It could just be me though.

But hey! Keep it up! Would love to see some more. Do you paint traditionally too?

"Looking for critiques! Any help is appreciated."

SkyTheArtist- Thx for the welcome, but I've been here for a while. Yeah, the nose was a hassle for me, I'm sure I'll improve as long as I keep practicing. I do paint traditionally, I'll post some when I get the chance to.
lilnebo- Yeah, it surprised me as well. I don't know why I keep making new sketchbooks, maybe I'm obsessed with having a fresh start. I will try to update this one daily, I've finally got the drive to push myself harder and draw everyday like I used to. Thank you for the kind words, your doing good yourself.

Here are a couple of photo studies from tonight. enjoy!

    Hey man.

Yeah I agree on the lizard. really cool. it has a bit of Boris Vallejo on the strokes. The paintings are good. Very hard to go academic like this. I always hide a lot in style, but you are going the hard way.

    cheers man

    Mario

Med- Thank you, isn't it about time for you to start up a sketchbook. See you then.
marioucci- Thx, I need to look over Vallejo's work again, its been a while since I've seen some. Cheers.

Few more today. I might work a little more on the second one, spent about two hours so far on it.

lilnebo- Thanks for the boost of confidence! Pencils will be coming soon.

I'm sorry guys, no updates today, too busy helping a friend move in to draw any. I know, I feel bad that I haven't kept my word by not updating everyday. More to come soon.

    Hey dude what's up!

Great book you have here! Loving all the pencil sketches, your designs are awesome!
Your didi paintings are great too, you do a lot of things the right way, you don't start on a white background, your brushwork seems solid, and the values are good too. However, try thinking about the shadows more, you mostly shade them with a single color which makes them seem a bit muddy. Try throwing more life in there! Some purples, blues, greens, oranges! Think of cool-warm contrasts too. If you're looking for the most awesome tutorials on skintones and facial features, you should out Linda Bergkvist's stuff -> http://www.furiae.com/index.php

    Keep it up
