Sean McClain For now I've created shapes of rectangles, branches, ink spatters and such, and I'm coming up with more to suit my needs And yeah, mind-reading is my other skill. When I said "perhaps you already know this", I was of course referring to your windows journal note

    monstertree Thanks buddy

First two are quick sketches, last two took a lot longer. I'm pretty happy about how the last one turned out, learned a lot of new things while doing it.

Nice range here and I like the enviros you've been doing here. The first enviro on post 365 is my fave on this page. The colors and values are really well unified in them. The last enviro is great too. Lots of texture there!

One thing I must ask is, for instance, on your latest enviro, what were you going for? Is it more mood that concept? There aren't many ideas inside that image except for those interesting shaped rocks in the distance. Reminds me of stone henge. Is that what you were going for? Perhaps you can elaborate on the concept more. Maybe you could add small figures heading towards it and really play with scale. Perhaps they are explorers from another planet and have come looking for those stones. Anyways, just throwing some ideas out. Either way, there is a nice depth of view and you have a lot of interesting shapes and textures in there.

    Keep the updates coming!

Mr.Pryminista I'll most probably work on the latest painting more. First it started as a "landscape painting" from imagination, but then I decided to add some story elements into it later on. The image is nowhere as complete as I'd like yet. I thought that perhaps behind those mountains lives a proud, independent, capable tribe of some sort, that wants to tell others to turn back and leave them by themselves - so they put up those huge rocks as a warning (only God knows how). However, someone has been daring enough to stay in a tent just outside those walls. Did he decide to take his chances and explore further on? What was his fate? What was the tribe like? I'll probably explore these things in the picture later on, and keep composing the story.
You're right, the image doesn't have enough concrete content in it to illustrate a story, and I was mainly focused on building a certain mood for the picture through shapes, lighting, composition, camera angle, choosing what to focus on, etc. I was thinking about including characters in this picture, but somehow the idea felt unoriginal to me, and couldn't shake off the idea that it would end up resembling a particular painting by Noah Bradley. So I went for a more subtle approach. Maybe later on I'll work on the piece by adding footsteps in the snow, hints about what things took place in this area, and hints of what sort of a tribe really lived beyond those stones. We'll see.

JoshDArtist Subscribed? Wow. I'm not worthy! Glad to hear that there's been some progress.

A couple of pretty rough and fast figure sketches from a few minutes ago (had to crop the other one a bit because the file was corrupt - beats me!), plus environment sketches from another day. The brown-toned one was painted using a photo that I took from Sagrada Familia as a base, from which I picked the basic colors for the composition and the modeling of form. I have to give this technique a try some other time, too...

Got a sudden urge to do some enviro studies after looking at your thread. Thanks ! Where do you live in Finland ? It's great to see other Finnish people doing this kind of shizzle.

Sketching away... not quite in the right mood. The sculpture ones are for school, painted from imagination straight into a photo in PS.
