    "rage" concepts and other concepts.

    hello CA!

i know it's not much compared to the amounts of visuals we have in our esoteric folders, but here's two "rage" concepts showed to the press not long ago. the first one is from 2005, the second from 2006 i think.

a while ago, i got very inspired after having watched thom tenery's process and the way he managed to stock his ref sources in a very smart way.
here's what i did just afterwards. also wanted to test my reflection/radiosity skills. there's still a long way but i'm getting there.

a month or two ago, i was playing around with my older kid's lego stock. he told me that it would have been nice to take a picture of some of his pieces before putting them back into pieces. i thought he had a great idea, took small pictures of his lego creations, and then created my own. took pictures of that small spaceship, and decided to use it as a base for a small concept art experiment.
unfortunately, the perspective on this vessel can be disturbing. but it was a fun thing to test. second image is the basic shot taken on the carpet.

and finally, i took some time to test that ALCHEMY proggram two weeks ago. the thing is quite frustrating i admit, and lost a piece that i loved badly. hence why i'm a bit furious towards that prog. but it was still a fun thing to try out.

    hope you enjoy

YES! Those paintings for Rage are bad ass! I'm really looking forward to the game, man. I really hope they let you, Ben and Kenneth post all of your work. You guys did some brilliant stuff! Incidentally the lego idea is pretty awesome. But for some weird reason the perspective in that photo IS totally wonky. I mean I know it's right, obviously, but I can see how it was causing trouble.

    Great work, man.

    Thanks for sharing these Nico!

I love the second Rage concept, looks very fresh to me. I like the definition of the architecture, like it's not all silhouettes and graphic shapes this time (while that works, it's cool to see different things from you)

The Lego process is looks like a lot of fun.

    Big thanks for the inspiration!!

Haha, I can't believe you used lego, man. Ever since you popped into the chat those months ago I've been thinking about doing it myself. Just have to find where my parents keep them.

Good job on keeping the image lose yet detailed.

I like the first and the third image most because of the hue variations.
The last alchemy image is juizy too!

Fantastic work as always! I love the Rage pieces and the simple color and shape breakdowns of the Alchemy pieces. Hell I love them all! I see what you mean about the wonked perspective in the lego piece and if you'll indulge me I spent a few minutes this morning playing with it in PS.

If you use the perspective lines of the lego piece as your guide, everything else falls together. If you were trying to imply the ship pitching downwards the piece works for the most part. However if the goal was to have the ship level with the ground a couple of simple adjustments are needed. God bless the scale and distort tool!...

So as you can see, all I did was take the structure on the far right and squish it up to match the persp lines of the ship and therefore the rest of the scene. I made the loading ramp angle upwards towards the ship. In the distortion I made of your work, it runs along the X axis (left to right) instead of parallel to the ship. If it's a gantry - level with the ship - then one would match the persp lines again to coincide with the far right structure/ship lines.

Anyway at this point I'm sure I've completely overstepped my bounds here but I hope you agree with my dissection. I'm a big fan of your work and I jumped at the opportunity to help if I could

    All the best,

    Ray

Always a treat to log on and see your work, it is always inspiring to me.

I found the lego thing funny. I have done a couple like that with my kid. he is 7 and wants to make games and movies. combines his legos with bionicles to make some ships. your rendition simply showed me how far I have got to go, but will push. awesome stuff.

Nice idea with lego. We used it (lego) for simple models in urban planning projects on university
I like color palette in those Alchemy paintings. Especially in the last one.

    Thanks for posting.

Great to see new work from you. Inspiring as ever. I particularly like the reflection/radiosity 'test' - lots of cool stuff going on in there.
