Sprite Animation Weekly #3 - CHOW Parade
It's Monday once again, and I'm thinking this will be a nice easy theme for this week.
Week 3 - CHOW Parade
The challenge for this week is to take a Winning Entry from a previous CHOW (character of the week) activity (100+ to choose from) and make a sprite that contains a simple walking animation from a side view. But there is a catch this week! The maximum height of the sprite needs to be less than 60 pixels. So, the main challenge is to deform the character as need be and use your editing eye to keep the character recognizable with a limited amount of space. Focus on the concept of the character, not the proportions.
- Previous CHOW winner ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55747 )
- side view
- walk loop
- less than 60 pixels in height

Didn't finish, and now I'm feeling pretty bad since it would seem no one else did either.
My main hang up is that ~60 pixels is something like my dead zone. I have a hard time drawing directly with pixels unless the sprite is pretty small (like ~30 pixels or something) so for anything larger I prefer to hand draw some major frames and pixel-paint over them and fill in the rest using those main frames as reference. Unfortunately at 60 pixels my draw and pixel trace technique isn't terribly effective, and my interest in working this more gave way to watching the Olympics.
Oh well, there's always next time. Here's what I did get done though along with my original drawn outlines. Oh and one last thing, I read the doc wrong and chose a ChoW non-winner, Edujante's take on "The Miner's Daughter". Go go reading comprehension!-My work can be found at my local directory thread.

Don't worry about it, I appreciate the effort, Anid.
Honestly, this challenge was a lot more difficult than I had figured it would be. Oh well, people are free to come back and try these in the future.
I did a quick one of the ChOW 001 winner, lukavi's entry. 4 frames

Hey nice one Sinix! Everything reads well and the cloth is nice secondary action. Lookin good too Anid, the sprite definitely looks good so far; looks like you were pretty far along in the cycle as well.
I must say that this one completely skipped my mind; I kept trying to start it during the week but school work and other things just kept jumping up and distracting me. I'll do it in the future though! hehe

Wow, I totally didn't see this before, or I would have advertised it in CHOW!
For those of you that made them, feel free to post them to the Chow Revisit and Revision thread and link back here, I think they're awesome.

I have to agree - next time let us know that you're doing something like this and we'll advertise it in CHOW and elsewhere. Would have been really cool to seem more of them!
All the best,
