my idea is going to revolve around a valley being uncovered by receding glaciers and polar ice melt. this is just the overall wide angle shot... i'll probably do an up-close-detail shot too once i nail a section to up-res.

probably going to do some kind of classical greek style architecture. not because i have any plausible scenario, just for visual reasons. well, hypothetically you could always create some theory that atlantis didn't sink--it drifted to the south pole and froze... something like that maybe.

Question: is ANY civilization ok? I mean, Gauls had a civilisation, too. Only that it wasn't as snobbish as the old Egyptian's or greek.

I'm going to do this one; I finished the last one but realised I was too late to post it!

I like this task, it's a nod to real life yet we still get to work our imagination.
I might go for Polynesian, or a civilization that's even more obscure.

    any civilzation is fine

but its hard to establish architecture in a confined locale for a basically nomadic civilization... ie celts, or bedouins. youd need to explain how they came to be trapped in the valley.. and how they survived the cultural changes of being stationary, and what remained of the previously mobile society

and I expect you to do all that visually without a lot of explaination
    Keep description/explaination to 4 sentences..or less

bearingall that in mind. Go for it!

Wow, nice topic. My imaginations going wild already. I always love all the art on here. I've never been really good at the environmental drawings. I really need to work on it. Maybe get some good pictures and just keep drawing until I'm better at all the formations and everything. Keep up the good work people! I enjoy watching.

Well, I thought I'd try this round in black and white. Technical pen. But it turned out terrible :o ... The buildings got lost in the cliffs so to try and salvage them I made them super hight contrast. Now they don't fit with the rest. Oh well. I'll end up redoing this bad concept lol

Smile The Lost City of Glacium

I like this subject a lot as well!

I'm working on a polar concept similar to ccsears, but different enough I think.
I've got a massive arctic Ice cave, glaciers, fjords, a lost Roman armada and a backstory to account for the centuries of isolation.

I like your idea of Atlantis drifting instead of sinking ccsears - Excellent!

The concept you've got going is terrific Xezor1324 . I'd love to see you flesh this concept out!

    Here's my scribble so far:

The Lost City of Glacium (actual city coming soon!)

Are there any requirements on whether or not the lost civilization is still living happily in their lost city?

quick update. Seems most people are going with the snow theme

wish I'd done jungle now lol

I'm thinking of turning the anubis head on the right (which is just blocked in atm) into a different god, but it might upset the balance, not sure.

Hi, I'm new here. This is my first post so please be gentle - anything could happen.

My idea is that Atlantis re-emerges on the Atlantic side of the Straits of Hercules following a violent eruption. I remember islands emerging off Iceland like that and the awe inspiring sight of molten rock and water. Later I visited Heimay and felt the hot earth beneath my feet and saw the half buried houses.

I hope this meets the brief, I assume the civilisation - unfortunately drowned of course, to be Ancient Greek. And here discovered by a solitary pilot.

    This is my first sketch.

This is where I am now.

    My try

I need to work on my environments... Not happy with this one, but I gotta stop fiddling with it. Bring on next week's assignment!

Description: I was doing some research on China during the "Warring States Period" and wondered what happened to the smaller states that were quickly taken over. Maybe they found refuge in a valley somewhere and built their houses on the walls to avoid being seen.

moonskinned, i think your piece is too monochromatic, think could use some more warm colors, but just my 2cents

orion i like your colors. And (since tried for a nice graphic design type presentation) I would make your borders thinner and move your name and EOW# into that little graphics design thing in the bottom right.

    what i've got so far

Just stumbled upon this activity. Let me know if I have done anything wrong (i'm new here). Comments and crits are craved. Thank you.

Description: This lost civilization draws its influence from the Nordic pantheon; the mountains that make up the walls of the valley provide an excellent protective border and the dangers of the surrounding jungle also do well to keep people away. The denizens of this place mostly belong to one of two factions: the scholars or the laborers. The last monarch of these people was killed in a revolt.

peetsbeets - Thanks for your comments, I totally agree... it was late when I was throwing it together and I just slapped that graphic title block on. I wasn't happy with it, but I'll fix it next time.
